93 Touring.

I don't have to hold the handle to lock the door AND I can shut my hatch whenever I want to.

I do too. But it seems so air tight all the time. I dont have to hold the handle to lock it either, I just use the key, but it still takes a lot more force than any other car.

i think the doors can take the abuse, ive had mines for soo long without a problem, My problem now is when i roll down the window the rubber tends to bend down while the window is going down, and the window either decends like a tirtle or just wont go down at all

I'm not talking about holding the handle to lock the door. I'm talking about why it takes less effort to close the door on a sunroof equipped car. EDIT: I quoted the wrong post above.

It probably depends on the condition of each car's door & hatch seals.

Check your sunroof. If you aren't seeing it pop up a little when you close the door then something isn't quite right. The other thing, which is obvious; keep your door hinges greased (not WD-40).

huh its funny. Mine are a little hard to close but nothing a partial slam doesnt fix xD yesh im a bitch for it xD

although its amusing cause people are CONSTANTLY over estimating the weight of the door when they close them so you always hear that half shut sound they make and then the person invariably goes "oh ****... hold on unlock the car i didnt shut your door right"

Haha, I do the same thing.

I'll get out of my car and wait for the passenger to shut their door, so I'll just stand there with the door open waiting for them. They'll wonder why I'm just standing there, and they'll just sit there with the door open. I'm like "Shut the ******* door!"

The sunroof pops up like crazy! But the hatch closes easily when a window is just slightly open. All of the seals are in great condition too. I guess its just sealed super tight

that is funny guys. i have had mine for about 5 years its always been hard to shut and in fact it still is. i just pulled it in the garage sinc ei drove it today and i cracked the sunroof and shut the door easily about three times then compared it to everything all sealed up and it makes a huge difference. I guess mine is still sealed up nice and tight. i never really payed attention to how hard it was one way versus the other but i do know i have had to shut my door 2x quite often because i hate to slam it.

Now that I've had the car a few weeks, I have figured out how much force to use and to not let go of the door until it is fully latched...that does the trick almost every time.

I guess this is a good thing, car is very well sealed. I haven't noticed any problems shutting my hatch (and mine's an R1 so no sunroof). I think I'll try shutting it and using the key to lock it in order to prolong the life of the handle...Thanks for that suggestion.

Mahjik....what do you suggest using to grease the door hinges? I have always used WD40 but do not like using the product...what alternatives are out there?

WD-40 is not really a lubricant. Buy some white lithium grease. You can find it in spray can form at most auto stores.

I'm not sure if you're just talking about the airtightness, but my buddies handle was SUPER tough to open. To the point where he broke it off trying to open it once. Then he bought a new one and it opened fine.

The same thing happened to my door once, I dismantled the handle, and reinstalled it and it opened fine. Couldn't tell you why it worked though.

I find that with my driver side door is hard... if you don't put enougb force (windows closed etcc) It doesn't close properly, and same with passenger... i thought they door hinges were bad, but I guess its just FD's?

I replaced the hinges on my doors. That was the reason I always had to slam my doors shut. For me it made no difference if the sunroof was open or closed, the doors always had to be slammed shut. Now they close with just the slightest push. I think the originals were just sagging over the years. I also installed new weather stripping on them while I was at it.

I replaced my drivers door handle with a new oem one and I no longer have to hold the latch up to lock the doors. My old door handle had to be held up to lock it. Installation was pretty easy and I dont remember overlooking anything. My passenger side still needs to be held up to lock.

Did you get new hinges from Ray? And how much do they run?

I would call ray and ask, simply because this thread is 2 years old and prices do change...

I guess I'm one of the lucky people who doesn't have to hold his handle up for the car to stay locked, I just shut the door and double check to make sure I remembered to lock it form the inside :P. I do typically stand there and wait for the passenger to close their door though, it's a little annoying when they don't put enough umph into it and it pops back open a little bit. It's also a pain to get the hatch closed with everything closed up, mostly because of the R1 wing, so I usually leave the drivers door open if I'm getting into the hatch for anything.
