anyone else interested in buying a kirk racing roll bar?

If 3 or 4 of us buy kirk roll bars we can get a big price break on them. Just interested in seeing if anyone else has installed one, how they like it, etc thanks :)

BigIslandSevens 02-03-04 12:34 AM

What are we talking here?( price wise, i know the bar well, the 4- point your talking about yes?) What is the weight( for shipping purposes, I live in Hawaii )

RotaSpinna69 02-03-04 12:59 AM

How much we talkin'? I wouldn't mind getting in on this deal...

COsborne 02-03-04 01:28 AM

I'll have to call them tomorrow to work out any details. I just wanted to see if I was the only one wanting one.

I highly recommend the bars! Really tightens up the car and fit is perfect! Go ahead and get it powdercoated though! I didn't and regret it now!

Scrub 02-03-04 09:01 AM

are they bolt in or weld in?

They have both...mine is 4 point bolt in and mounts behind the seats. Can also go in the bins for more seat travel.

im listening

I just bought one from a guy in Illinois...repainted it but haven't installed it yet. What I can say is that it weighs a lot! On my home scale, the main hoop alone is about 65lbs and each of the rear connectors are 10lbs....wondering if this effects the balance of the car a bit?

Because the car was so much more rigid, I was willing to sacrafice the weight. Even the suspension feels like it is working better particularly over uneven pavement.

PandazRx-7 02-03-04 12:39 PM

Thanks...That is a good sacrafice since I drive this car on the streets and I'm dying for a better ride quality. It's way too noisy now...

My real concern is the fact that I don't want the rear to drop too much especially with a full tank of gas...That's alot of weight...I would have to raise the rear height a notch.

P'cola FD 02-03-04 12:44 PM

I have been interested in one of these bars for some time now. I will definitely get in on this as long as the bar that goes inplace of the bins allows full or close to full seat travel. I'm not online that much, so if you arrange something, please PM me.

P'cola FD 02-03-04 12:47 PM

And people, don't forget the main reason to get one of these: SAFETY! Louis (RXplicit) was saved by his kirk racing cage when he was in an accident in his first FD.

rceron 02-03-04 01:22 PM

I have one and it's great and it certainly stiffens the car on the track.

However, you don't want your head (w/o a helmet) anywhere near the roll bar itself for the street. I'm only 5 6" - 5 7" and there is a decent amount of space between the back of my headrest and the bar. If you are much taller and tend to recline the seat back I would be concerned.

And, padding the rollbar won't do you much good without a helmet.

Finally, if you want any passengers get the rollbar that goes into the bins. This of course will kill storage space. No free lunch here.

Food for thought.

Any pics of this set up?

How muchis this, and does this allow you to run 11s or better at the track?

SleepR1 02-03-04 06:35 PM

I like the Kirk 6-pt roll cage. You might as well, if you're going to do any NASA-type time trials! Talk about stiffening up the chassis--damn!

that one started its life in the hands of fritz flynn lol

COsborne 02-03-04 07:55 PM

wow, I thought I was the only one dying for one :) okay, I'll do the next step. They said I could do a cumulative buy in but thats not going to save any of us on the price so I guess I'll just have to buy a few and then drop ship them maybe? I'm in SC and frequently deal with freight deliveries. UPS raised their shipping weight as well as fedex so it may even be possible for it to be shipped via one of these. I'll have more info tomorrow.

bond007 02-04-04 10:58 AM

The Kirk bar will only be shippable by freight. UPS/FedEx won't ship them. They are too large, not too heavy, from my prior discussion with Kirk. A Miata bar will ship UPS, but they are dimensionally smaller.

That said, I have one in my car that I might consider parting with. I'm in NC, if that's close to anyone interested for a local pickup/meet halfway.

It is the version that keeps the bins and has the diagonal bar welded in.

Fedex has Freight delivery service, I just used them to have a Kirk bar shipped to me from Illinois. Not sure if it was a good deal though, but I didn't feel like shopping around at the time.

Ya, ive been looking for a roll-cage that goes along with the drag strip rules. Autopower makes some but are not acceptable for drag use...

COsborne 02-04-04 11:29 PM

Kirk makes several different sizes. They sent me a list of the various stuff and prices I've been swamped with orders at the office and I keep forgetting to post the details while at the office. I'll write it down for tomorrow :)
