Anyone Driving on 245 / 45 /16

I need new tires for my 1993 RX-7.

I have stock 225 / 50 16.

Am considering maybe buying 245 / 45 /16

Just wanted to know if anyone currently is driving on 245 / 45 /16 and what their experience is. Recommend or Not?

I like the 245/45 better than the 225's. The problem is that there are not very many manufacturers making that size any more. The 245s work well with stock rims, and dont create any clearance issues with fenders, even on a slightly lowered car. The 245's may change your speedometer reading slightly, but it isnt much.

When I was shopping for tires a few years ago, I was not able to find a tire that I liked in a 245/45.

I’ve used a full set of 245/45-16 tires on stock wheels for years with no issues. Mainly went the 245/45 route because I wanted a bit more width on the rears and didn’t want a staggered set. With stock springs or on Ohlins coilovers which lowered the car about an inch, I have never rubbed a fender. The car isn’t tracked or used for autocross but for my spirited driving of weekend grocery getting I’ve been happy with the setup.

Agree with the above. I ran 245/45's on stock wheels for years too. They do seem to be making a small come-back. A few years ago I couldn't find that size in a quality street tire at all. Ended up going 255/40/17 square. They do look better IMO. But kept the stock wheels for R compounds.

I currently run the Eagle F1 GS-D3 in OEM size. Best tire I've ever run regarding wet traction and low noise/ride comfort.

But the following Potenza RE-11 specs in the 245/45/16 size appear to compare somewhat favorably (wet traction) and/or better in some aspects (comfort & dry traction). Under $200 ea, too...

Bridgestone Potenza RE-11

I autocrossed several years ago with 245/45's on the stock rims, with sport (lowered) springs and koni's. No fit or rubbing issues, tracked nice on the street too. At this point it's probably more difference in available tires than choosing between these 2 sizes. I've read good stuff about the RE-11's too.

I also had a set of the S-04 Pole Position on my Volvo S80 T6, and they were awesome.

I'm pretty much a Bridgestone guy for car tires and Goodyear for truck tires.
