Anyone do AutoX with greddy FMIC?

Does anyone here do any autocrossing with the greddy FMIC for the stock twins?? Any problems with overheat??
Would a C02 intercooler spray fix the problem?

Since you rarely have the opportunity to go "wide open throttle" for any length of time, I would say it would be a waste of effort to add an intercooler spray device. I know people will chime in that a colder intake charge will generate more power, but believe me, you have plenty of power you wont even be using.

My point is that "DRIVER ABILITY" is way more important. Checkout the results from your local autocross. Ford Focus's beating supercharged Saleen Mustangs? Crikey, what's up with that????

I would invest in a performance driving school prior to trying to get the absolute maximum power out of your car (which you wouldn't be able to use effectively anyway)

With the size & location of the stock intercooler any "problems" would have cropped up with it years ago. (another debate, I know)

Have fun, race your car & learn to handle it. Overtime your abilities will improve & you will truly appreciate your car.

Just because you bought a Viper, Porsche, Corvette or FD doesn't mean you can drive it worth a ****. People will tell you their car will do 12's & 0-60 in under 5 sec. When challenged they admit "they" haven't actually done it, but read in some car mag that it can.

Sorry to the ramble on, but this has been bugging me ever since some dick asked how much the rear wiper weighed. I replied that he should autocross his car with a passenger & without.

I figured the **** was living on his car's rep & didn't have any real driving experience (Sears doesn't count).

I was right when he replied that I must be to young & stupid to not "realize" that every once of weight counts. Turn's out IM neither, go figure.

My point was even with that large a weight difference I doubt he will ever be consistent enough to notice. It takes year of actual racing & weekly practice to be "that good".

I have to agree with sled driver. Drivablity is much more important in an Auto X. If that is what you really want to do spend the money on some sticky tires, good brake pads and with what is left over buy a helmet and an instructional track day. I have really gotten into tracking my car here lately and with the stock suspension I had a hard time keeping the rear end of the car under me in an auto X. I know a couple of events(tight courses w/ 3 or 4 haripins) a Mini S beat me by .75 sec and he was stock. He was just able to put the power down and control the car a lot better. The dag gone thing turned on a dime too. I have a much stiffer suspension now and it is even harder, but I am setup more for road courses not auto X's.

Well, i know that i could use more seat time for auto crossing. However, the guy that helped me install everything is an instructor at heartland park race course. Guy named Art Baldwin.
However, That wasn't the point to this post. Ive heard that road courses and FMICs dont work to well. However, tons of people use the greddy fmic, and i was wondering if they have problems overheating.
I asked about the CO2 because i thought maybe if you could chill it then the problem would go away. Maybe, it was just a guess. So, if anyone does do any tracking with a greddy FMIC, let me know how it turns out.
Thanks

There is no need to chill the IC....it's not your air temps you need to worry about. I would recomend an upgraded radiator and possibly a larger oil cooler setup if you plan on racing alot...for daily use, I have never had a problem with my Greddy FMIC's and long drives, traffic, summer heat, etc...always around 84-86C year round.

First I want to apologize if my reply came across as a personal attack. I have no idea of your personal abilities or natural talents. It was not directed at you.

You question was about overheating problems during Autocross. I use a PFS SMIC so can't offer any help.

You replied that you read about road course overheat, totally different conditions.

I would think a intercooler sprayer would be most effective to the 1/4 mile guys to extract that last 1/10 of a sec.

Cheers

I would like to know also if it is okay to auto-x with a greddy FMIC. I plan to do some auto-x on the FD as soon as I get trasnfered out of this **** hole. I already got a Fluidyne radiator. I'm palnning on upgrading the oil cooler if it will help.
