Anyone with an after market (not stock) antenna please come in and give your $0.02
Well after reading just about every thread about antennas possible on this board im still not sure that i want to replace my broken RC (stock) looking antenna with another stock one. Im leaning more toward something similar to what S2000s come with but i have read mixed reviews about how well such an antenna swap really works. Some people say their reception is horrible and others claim it has not been affected in any way.
If anyone has anything to say on the matter please voice your opinion.

I did get one of those hidden antennas off of ebay that I have on the inside rear hatch window. I only get reception on a couple of FM stations.
Your best bet is get an aftermarket deck that allows you to plug your iPod into it, I havent use FM or missed it since I bought my alpine deck.
+ 1 on the IPOD thing.
my aftermarket antenna looks cool (to me at least, see sig) but reception sucks!
I ordered an AI-NET Alpine Ipod adapter on Ebay for about 15 bucks and now I have an Ipod player that charges it as well

I remember people on the forum would get power antennas for their RX-7s from RadioShack as replacements. I dont remember if this was for FC or FDs though. I also need yo fix my power antenna since it stopped going up. I'll probably inspect it in a day or two to see what the problem is. Hopefully its as simple as feeding a new mast in but with these cars, the easy/cheap route isnt the case.
I need to get a new head unit since my current alpine is about as old as the car and doesnt like playing burned CDs and turns off/on every once in awhile all by itself. My poor car has seen better days...
Nah, He probably meant Austin Martin. It's the knock off Aston Martin and it's got a little 2 cylinder engine in it.
Also, I agree with everyone. Just get a dam front deck where you can plug in an ipod, or something of the sort. Radio is so outdated nowadays.

i personally like being able to listen to FM. you get updated on new songs, club events going on around the city and some of the DJ's are pretty funny. Commercials suck though. and bad reception sucks too. The small rubber antenna i have gets bad reception, as does the factory glass mount antenna, not to mention the glass mount also has the picket fence sound. I do have a splitter that i might try to use both antennas together but i have a feeling it wont work out too well... We'll see..
Funny thing i noticed while hooking up different antennas in my car, when i held the 6" adapter that came out of my radio my body actually made the best antenna, unfortunately i wasnt about to drive around holding an antenna wire the whole time.

Its' purpose is "diversity" reception. With FM you get "standing waves" (signal varies from almost 0 to great as you move a metre or two). It's caused by reflections adding and subtracting from the direct signal. So if you have two antennas and a receiver that can use them, you space them the appropriate distance apart so when one antenna is at the "0 signal" position, the other is not - and you don't have serious fading as you move - with FM only.
