Is anyone actually using the Omori or Defi D-Gauges?

I tried asking this in the interior section, but got no responses, so before laying the topic to rest, I want to post it here....

D-Gauge:

I've searched around to see a few people that said they were going to order the Defi d-gauge, but I haven't seen anyone post what they thought of them after using them. If anyone is using them, here's a couple questions for you (I e-mailed these to a Defi retailer, but they never got back to me):

1. Can you remove the multi-colored bezel and replace or repaint it so that it's a solid color?

2. Is it difficult to read because a) it goes to 35 psi and we only hit around 13 or b) because each mark is 1.25 psi instead of 1 psi (3 marks between 5 psi instead of 4)? (Why Defi made this gauge this way is beyond me)

Omori:

Has anyone heard of the status of the RX7 Omori gauges?
Have they made an orange backlight for the standard (non-metric) gauges? What about a red needle on the black gauges - is that available? (I e-mailed Omori and got no response from them)
Does anyone know where I can get standard (non-metric) Omori gauges in the states?

general question: I've already installed the temp. sender for an SPI elec. water temp gauge. If I switch to a diff gauge, can I use the same sender, or will it require the sender for that particular gauge (it seems like they would all be the same)?

post pictures (of the installed gauges) if ya got 'em.

Yeah, I heard about those custom RX-7 gauges to match our OEM, but have heard nothing either... I am wondering what happened to that too, since I am about to get my boost gauge and was hoping to get the RX-7 custom gauge.

They're still working on the gauges. If you want to get their stock gauge, which look close to OEM in the daytime (green backlight), contact www.omori-na.com.

I'm holding out for the custom gauges too, but am getting sick of waiting as well.

according to their website, "many" of their standard (non-metric) gauges are available with an orange backlight, and they also say that they have red, white, and yellow needles. If I could get an orange backlight with a red needle, that would be plenty close enough for me - i really don't care about a special font or chrome bezel. However, I don't know where to get or order them... they still haven't replied to any of my e-mails.

I have sold a bunch of the D-Gauges, but have not heard any feedback on them.

alrighty, ill be the one that says that they purchased the defi gauge units. i love them. i cant attest to the accuracy since i dont have a PFC to compare it to, but its better than the stock ones. ill try and get some pics but its nothing huge. i got the autometer dual pod which sucks ***. i modified it to sit lower down the pillar. all in all great gauges. i have the boost and the water temp. well worth the extra bucks.

Good call. I have a little gap at the top of my Autometer dual gauge pod. I thought it was just a shitty job on my part, until I saw pics of some other ones that also had the same gap as I do. Sounds like Autometer was cutting corners..........

what's funny about the autometer gauge pod..

the 94+ integra gauge pod fits perfectly with no gaps... hehhe.. wierd. that's what was suggested for me to use..i was hesitant.. but it works better than the model specific one.

Cool Group Buy

Jason said he would inquire (Omorometer)but looks like they haven't resonpded to him yet.

The will do custom orders but with a min of 30 peices. So if we want black face, red need & orange backlight and US reading that's custom.

I'd like to get the white face to match my white NR faces but I will settle for the black ones.

The Defi D gauges only have one flaw, which is there is there is only 3 lines in between every 5psi marking so each line is +1.33lbs?

actually the rx7 pod fit fine after i cut the lower portion of it so it can be slid further down. i dont like the fact that i can almost hit my hand when turning. fixed that though. as for mounting i went ahead and put it under the window seal and its looks good. not a dual pod fan, but hey it does the job. and yes as i previously stated, it still sucks ***.

diggin one up

this is probably a REALLY stupid question, but can the DEFI D-gauge temp gauge be used for water and oil (yes, i realize this would take two gauges, but i just want to clarify before i drop that money and find out it won't work). i've tried asking one retailer and they haven't gotten back to me with a response yet.

thanks in advance for answering my stupid *** noob of a question guys.

Yes, the Defi D-gauge Temp gauge may be used for either water or oil.

In fact, they only sell one temp gauge in the 'D' series.

Kinda funny this comes up. I was thinking the other day that if you could use two sensers and one gauge, There would have to be a swicth between the sensers, But this could be a good way to save space and money.

Just a thought

Has anyone tried replacing the stock oil pressure and water temp with the d-gauge units in the gauge cluster? I know cooper was able to do it on his car, but the gauges he used were smaller (front to back).

that would actually be a pretty easy thing to do, the problem, however, that i can see is that you may forget what temp you're looking at. personally, i'm looking at going with a boost, water temp, and oil temp gauges (yes, two separate temp gauges) and eventually adding a fuel pressure, blah blah blah as things progress. i've got a pretty mild car, i just wanna keep an eye on things because i'm paranoid so, that's why i was asking.

It actually crossed my mind at one point about putting the Defi units in the stock cluster, but I never got around to messing with it. It would probably look pretty good, if done right.

Talking Pics of Defi D-Guage Installed

Here are some pics of my Defi D-gauges installed in a tri-pod in the center speaker. I know everyone will want to see what they look like powered up, but have not finished that yet.

Expensive but nice.

Something to be aware of about this set-up is that with the bezels installed, the gauges don't fit in the tri-gauge pod without modification. Note that there is no space between the bezels. I can post more details if anyone is interested.

While the bezels are removable, I chose to use them because I like the way they look.

techno, what made you decide to go with a fuel pressure gauge over an oil temp gauge?

Came from a recommendation from two local RX-7 owners who have many years of experience with FD's. One has bad experiencies with blowing motors due to detontation caused by fuel pump problems.

My rationale is that problems with oil temps will show up in the engine water temperature so you will at least know you have a problem (I can monitor water temp's with my dhas mount gauge and my PFC). With fuel pressure, if you want to start running higher boost, you have to make sure you can monitor how your fuel pressure is doing. Only way to do that is with the gauge.
