anybody see the new import tuner?
has anyone seen the new issue of import tuner mag? the cover car is the silver fd with the 99 jdm conversion and grafted veilside lip. i have really admired the front end on the car ever since i first saw it in a thread on this forum, but some of the other mods on it displayed in the magazine article kind of ruined my admiration for it.
first off, i really like the way the car looks, i think almost everyone here probably does to some extent: the front end, vented hood, and big *** rims, etc.
what i dont like is the "tuned by Matrix" intake system, and how he got a really nice Cusco "d-bar" strut tower bar and stuck a big MUGEN (honda) sticker on it. i mean come on... usually i think the the term is overstressed on this forum, but i think this is the most appropriate time for everyone to scream "RICE!"
i am done complaining now. other than that, i think it is a nice looking car. i just dont know how the owner could be so naive to the things that are hurting the way his car is viewed by other knowledgable rx-7 owners.

I have to say Mugen is not crap. They are the only tuner really into racing. They race in F1(at least they were) Not too much tuner will build their own F1 engine.
That just the people who put those things on their car stupid. Nothing to do wtih the Manufactory or Tuner.

Did you say the mugen sticker was on the strut tower bar? I took these at SS4. He can stick a Barney, V-tec, or whatever sticker on his strut bar for all I care. Guess he wants to impress his Honda friends so they at least recognize something familiar under the hood.

HAHA! I saw that car at Sevenstock, I said hella loud: "Whats up with that Mugen decal" and the owner said "$@&* I knew someone was going to say something about that" and he walked away.
It was pretty funny I thought.

Stop saying "JDM". (= "Japanese Domestic Market" and it's just a bullshit trend buzzword here in the States)
That car is the ugliest thing I have ever seen. A friend of mine sent me Sevenstock pictures the day of and after seeing that one I felt dirty.
Stop saying "JDM".
MUGEN is Honda's equivalent of MazdaSpeed for Mazda, TRD for Toyota, RalliArt for Mistu, etc. It's an affiliated "in-house" tuner specific to the manufacturer.

And I haven't looked at Import Tuner since the second issue. I can't believe you'd waste your time.

The front and rear rims are different. Is he trying to start a new trend? There are some things I like about his car but the graphic on the rear window is WAY too much! A little over-zealous with the artwork IMHO.

Wow.
It's like I haven't posted in forever.
Anyways, had to chime in.
The owner of that car is an ok guy.
But I, too, hate that car. Why? Lessee....
1. 20" rims to not belong on an RX-7, especially if they rub all the freakin' way around.
2. "Air bags" do not work well as a a suspension on sports cars.
3. What is the TV in the back for?
4. All show and no go makes Tom a slow boy.
.... perhaps I'm jealous. But I don't think so. I mean... why would I be?

Heh, well personally I don't like it but I'm sure there's people that like it. Maybe the owner likes it, I dunno, looks like the paint and body work was done pretty well at least. That car is kinda "Frankenstein" looking to me, rims are WAY too big and don't match, Mugen stickers, grafted front lip... kinda looks gaudy. It's like the car can't quite decide what it wants to be, heh.

I car's way to show for me. Yea, I just got my Veilside kit in about 30 minutes ago (yay ) I like a little bit of show, but I'm mostly getting the go parts for mine. Yea, I got 18 inch wheels, I wanted to get a set of 17" Enkei's, but I'm buying a set from the sticky for $745 shipped to my door, couldn't pass it up. Anyway, Veilside body kit, 18" wheels, and a Erebuni aluminum wing with the car re-painted black is all I'm doing for body mods, well, until my vented hood comes in. The rest is going to be for speed. Ok, well, to my point, if they guy likes his car, who cares what he does? If it's not offensive, like with slang or cuss words, or racial slurs or something, then quit your bitching. That's his thing so let him be... no matter how wrong it is to put a Mugen stick on a 7

The owner of that FD told me once that his FD was about 400 hp. Then he calls me up two weeks later and asks how to install a pulley kit and a DP.
Basically this guy was telling me he was pushing 400 hp with stock turbos, stock motor, stock DP and a Cat still in. That changed my opinion of him right then and there.
Also he does not run the 20" rims on the street. He has to jack up his car at the shows and put them on. What's next? Daytons on a FD?
Mugen sticker on a FD....thats like putting TRD on a honda...actually it's worse. Didn't think you could "rice" a car but i guess i was wrong.
We don't call him Tom "NO GO" Ngo for nothing.

Strange because last year when that car was at SS3. It wasn't so bad. Was actually pretty nice.
I still wish Emory's car was placed in that lobby position instead of his, only if I got there a little earlier though.
