Question Anybody ever had this wierd problem I had last night?

I was on the highway last night just cruisin'. When all of a sudden i look down and my tach was on 0. Trying to figure out what the heck was going on, i noticed my oil pressure gauge was still showing pressure and i could hit the gas and make boost, but the car had no power and couldn't accelerate. So i pull over to the side of the road and try to restart it. Nothing. It would just turn over and over but never fire. So I poped the hood and checked for any loose hoses and what not, and then got to my fuses. My EGI fuse was blown out. I had a buddy take me to Pepboys where I got two new 30A fuses. Got back to my car and put the new fuse in. When i did this i went back to try and start the car, the fuse blew again. Now knowing there was a short somewhere making the fuse blow right? I am pretty sure, but want to be corrected if i'm wrong, the EGI fuse controls the injectors. I was told it might be a short in the starter. Today when i get off work i'm going to take the ground off the starter and see if the fuse blows when i turn the ignition on. If so, i would assume i would need a new starter, but I guess i'll see later on today when I actually try it.

Just curious if any of you had this probem ever, and if this sounds like a good solution to what it might be.

thanks

Does the engine crank when you try to start it? If so, it's not your starter. The starter power doesn't go through the EGI fuse anyway.

You should pull out your FSM and check out the EGI circuit and see what's there that could be grounding out.

Short somewhere, probably in the body electrical harness. I had the same problem last summer when tuning the car. I just lost power. Thought I blew the motor at first. The power wire to the injectors was melted as well as some of the wiring by the ecu. Ended up swaping the entire body electrical harness with an extra one I had. Never did find the short. Check if you can find any melted wires or an obvious short. Perhaps you rubbed through your fender liners and tore up the harness?

Talk to Don or David ... if memory serves, they had the exact same problem with a customers car while mine was in the shop.

I had that problem with a TII. Turns out it was a mod gone bad. Someone had removed the BAC but left the wires hanging. At first it would cut out when turning left, then finally it quit and kept blowing fuses.

The BAC wire was touching the intake manifold and shorting, at first it was intermittant, then it welded itself to the manifold...

One of the things that the EGI relates to is your air bags. Has the car ever been in an accident? Also, your alternator should be inspected. Anyway, good luck.

the older cars had a similar problem when the trailing coil (or igniter) would go out- not sure if it helps but, you know, whatever.....

What in the starter was shorting out? The starter itself or the harness? I had a similar problem last year but it was somewhere in the body electrical harness.
