I'm talking about front mount. I thought everybody here ( on the forum) said front mount would be **** on the racetrack. I have a front mount EBAY intercooler, a To4 EBay turbo, stock 110,000 mile radiator, and smoked everybody at the track, while maintaining acceptable water and IAT's. If we are not comparing ducting, how can we assume that one intercooler is better than another. I believe that most of the aftermarket parts out there are quality stuff, but the method of installation will determine the performance of said products. As far as the stock mount set ups, to think that you can bring air thru a 10 square inch duct inlet or less, widen it to 40 square inches at the intercooler, and expect it to have some superhuman effiency, U B NUTS

not the best picture in the world...stupid camera phone. I just got back from Deals Gap. I would say the trip put the intercooler to the test. I am talking about the SMIC that has 2.75" in/out and costs 225+25+3.19 for a total of 253.19 to your door. of course it doesnt come with a duct. It really wasnt that hard to fabricate a mock-up and then fiberglass it. The duct in the picture is finished structurally but not cosmetically. (gotta make it look good)

temperature at Deals gap was roughly 85 - 95*F throughout the day.

AIT temps ranged from 39 - 45*C during the multiple runs over deals gap. water temp was 88 - 91*C during the runs. I think I might even be able to post a log recorded with my datalogit and wideband for the non-believers.

pertaining modifications:

-PFC water temps set to 87,89,89
-Fluidyne rad.
-stock twins run non-sequential at 14 psi.

Mine is stock mount also, with the same results that others have posted here. I don't think anybody has posted pics with no duct, just the one guy saying he was getting good results without any duct.

Who was the guy claiming to run 11's on $1200 in mods? It turned out later he was making it up but wasn't it one of the people associated with this stuff?

A local buddy has a greddy 2 row fmic and i have my asp race smic.....my temps are consistently 7 deg C lower than his, be it cruising, wot, whatever. Also, you may want to think about swapping out that radiator or you will def cook your motor sooner rather than later, in my humble opinion. I am only 28 (vs your 46) but as a shop owner and a long time FD owner I have been around enough to become intimately acquainted with murphy's law

Air or water temps are 7 deg lower? I was sure that installing this smic was going to kill my water temps because my duct pretty much covers the entire radiator right above the fans giving them only an inch or two to push (or is it pull) air. Somehow water temps actually seem to be lower now, in 90 ambient my temps will actually be lower than 180 at highway speeds, they used to hover around 185.

Is that a greddy elbow? Did you get the pipe to go with the elbow from the ebay seller?

I should have mentioned that I have deleted my a/c, so the condensor is removed from the front of the rad. I am surprised that my AITs are lower than his though....that is supposed to be the advantage of the FMIC *shrug*

I need to get a Greddy elbow. It is just a cut stock elbow. I didnt have to cut it for this IC. I cut it for the last IC I had. I ended up not using the pipe that came with the IC that goes from the IC to the elbow.

How did you hook it up then? Was yours one of the fmic's? I used both pipes that came with the ebay ic.

I put it in normally. I didnt use the short pipe that connects to the elbow. well, the one that came with it wouldnt work with my cut stock elbow. So I used some spare IC piping that I had laying around.

I dont have an air pump. I doubt it would work without modification to the charge pipe. I made my own fiberglass duct. I dont have a template, but I have had some interest in making a handful of the ducts for people.

nice. I am going to try and fab something up, I like the duct that was being designed for the greddy smic on the forum, I can't remember who was doing it. I am wondering if that will work with minor modification for this intercooler, I will have to look at it more when it comes.

So you have to remove the air pump for this to fit, or can you fit it anyway? I think I'm about to pick one of these up since I'm still running stock.

Like the name brands like Greddy, Blitz, Apexi, Pettit, PFS, Spearco provide certified data on their products; over time info will come in on the products from these cheaper sources.

And I think we all need a lesson in the global economic market, like it or not almost all our products from pens to $10 million dollar machines; including major and high end quality name brands from every major country are either made in China or an equal cost market or are composed on major componentry from such country. Made in USA does not mean it was all made in USA. Just like the example of the $70 shirt bought for $20 That Shirt was most likily made in China or equal sold to us distributor brand namer for $3.50-5.00 shipped, then sold to store chain for $14.00. I am not saying it was not a $70 shirt equal to any other good quality shirt; just that he got a mark down deal at $20 same as some one elese in this country bought the exact same shirt from some other sourcing for there list price of $20. Are we certain that none of the listed names do not get there cores from some Chinese manufacture.

PS: I travel to the Orient at least 9 times per year, working for a major heavy equipment manufacture, trying to sell multi million dollar equipment that is still to this date really made in the USA; even down to the steel from our own steel mill. It is an uphill battle [most other people on the flights are mainly the computer and communications industry (in my part of the country) there to purchase goods or visit the manufacturing plants there] that will soon be lost to other Asian suppliers unless we take some of our labor business to then. But you know what I can not get upset with a consumer trying to find the cheapest price for what he buys .. if we here in the US can not use our efficiencies to reduce our costs of basic goods (by the way IC's are not high tech anymore), or provided ever increasing performance of a product through leading edge technology to justify leading edge pricing, then we will go broke. Either by spending our GNP on overpriced goods made in our own market (remaining our countries last customer) or by going out of business in all market areas and no longer even being able to afford the cheaper foreign products with our service jobs; read, "McDees" as our higher paying service jobs continue to flow out to India, China and Thailand

THAT was kickin' some knowledge!! I totally agree with Julian's statement. Hence paying for a very high priced intake when I spent $50.00 for a custom deal and it is as good if not nicer than the HKS, apexi, greddy and on and on. WHY? I for one don't have money to throw down the pipes and things are not good with our economy, there are definately some issues with off shore manufacturing and I will continue to go for quality at the right price. Amen for bringing this to the forefront Julian. much props.

I dont think it will work as is. the charge pipe (one from the y-pipe to the IC) would have to be modified to clear the air-pump. You could always buy the M2/ASP pipe that clears the air pump from rx7store.net for $135 if you didnt want to fool with the pipe that it comes with.

It'd probably be cheaper to get one bent to specs rather than buy that. My roomate has a guy that does IC piping pretty cheap, I'll see if he can't get something put together for me. If this deal on the PFC that I'm looking at falls through, I'm picking up this IC instead and I'll see what I can do with it.
