I still don't see why everyone is making suck a big fuss over this. Complaining about the XS Power intercooler isn't going to steer away the majority of people in the market for it. The people who buy Kevin's intercoolers I would imagine aren't the people looking to save a few bucks on cheaper parts so I don't see why he has a stick up his ***. I own a XS Power intercooler and I love it and at the same time Kevin isn't losing any business from me because I wouldn't have been in the market for one of his intercoolers in the first place. No one is disputing that Kevin's parts are better so why are we all here? I think it's sad that grown men choose to fight over something as foolish as this.

If anyone needs an intercooler duct for their xspower intercooler, check out the link in my signature.
I know there are a lot more people who could use one than are on the group buy list.

I for one am going to get an ss ac intercooler, why? because im not spending thousands of dollors on a car that i only want to slightly improve. I already own a 98 DSM that cost over 30k in fabriaction, build up and parts and for about 2 years of its life its been on and off the road geting f'd with, tuned, FIXED. i dont feel like making another race car. most of the people here arnt making cars that are planing on tagging down Gallardos on a track or running 10s threw the 1/4 in, and if i was planing on making a car like Damiens i would ditch the SMIC setup all together, but thats a diff story. twin turbo se7en took the time to make somthing awsome that will benifit everyone with a ss ac and sells it at a great price, this is suppose to be a community right? act like one. stop discrediting a product in the hope for better business. I for one am completly turned off to buying anything ASP now for how unprofessional some people have been acting. Im sure the people wanting the 400+ TT or single turbo lambo eating cars will consider you more over a 250 dollor ebay product. people like me however wanting a cheap alternative that have no plan of that in the near future just want to increase performance without selling their first born. se7en im gona put a down payment on one of ur ducts if its not to late
also at this time i wanna introduce my self names Brian. Im a Marine stationed in S CA, i dont post much and my spelling sucks, but i read the forums everyday. drive a street ported MB 7 w/ dp, hfcat, exst, and apexi duels. hopefully this tread doesnt get closed because it shurly will benifit those who want to purchase the SS guy

Brian,
Just so ya know, damian runs SMICs (ASP medium on his street car, ASP Large on the track car) for both of his FDs. Not bashing the SS Autochrome at all, but you can still find a good deal on ASP and M2 ICs all the time on the forums if you just wait it out. Now of course if you want to go new and like to do stuff yourself the SS autochrome is alright. Look at this price break down though ..
SSautochrome IC (old school bar and plate design)- 275 + 15 dollars shipping
Duct from the main man TT seven - 175
Greddy elbow and custom piping (if you want the kit to work right and not look hidious)- 200
Decent couplers and T bolt clamps - 100
So you see your already at the 750 mark which is close to the range of a used SMIC kit with ducting. Now of course all my opnions don't matter or mean they are right for anyone else, thats just how I saw it and how I justified getting a ASP

and for a true DIYer, (not knocking Sean and his quality duct) fiberglass duct... - $125
you are now at $525 brand new... where as with ASP you are looking at over $1700 for the same pieces that may or may not produce substantial improvement. And even used ASP, it would be hard to beat $500 price. I can understand where you and others are coming from but some of us can't justify $1200 for something that works just a little bit better that something that worked well a few years ago (oldschool).

True I do see the T bolts now,,
Only thing is that piping has no ridges on it to keep the couplers from sliding off. If people do buy this, please either do it or have shop flare the ends out so the piping doesn't fly home for winter.

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
I got the two pipes bend and made(unpolished) for $40.00 at a custom muffler shop. You could go to ATP turbo and get two 24" straight alum. or SS pipes for $22 a piece and get them bend. I paid $4.00 a piece for self torquing t-bolt clamps at Napa. The clamps that come with are nice you should not even need new ones, they are the nicest couplers and clamps I have received in any kit, even greddy! I already had the elbow and the couplers that come with are at least three ply. The duct you can save yourself the trouble then get Sean's duct, if you were like me you make your own. I was working on it at the same time as Sean. I know fiberglass. It was easy for me. So, that is 225.00 + 20.00 shipping, $40 for the pipes, $50 for my duct materials that is around $350.00. That is why I am so happy, and as I have always stated, I was looking for a way to upgrade over stock without doing some major money spending, especially since I will never get past the BNR 3's. We will see if it does its job. I live in a fairly cool climate and don't plan on tracking my car, maybe minus a driving course or two. So that is why I chose this route, not because I thought it performed better than ASP. I would be interested in a heads up test against the ASP MED and see what is up, but that is for my own devices. I have never seen both side by side to compare. Really the only way would be to field test them and do a lot of recording under the same conditions and see which one works better, or a wind tunnel test I guess. That would be for fun. I already know that I got my money's worth. Hope you guys feel the same.

i own one of these and i love it. I will post some installed pics. At first fittment was tough, but once all of the couplers were warm i had to push it into place but after a few heat cycles it fits perfect and does not move. I also had an issue with the greddy intake kit. You can not have the bracket for the top intake pipe bolted down with the ss auto intercooler. Over all i love it, it is huge, hidden, and easy to install. I also love the fact that my car is still a some what sleeper(for an fd that is). P.S. the couplers all held when i was running at about 17lbs.

hmm, the piping I got was bead rolled. The IC in/out did not have beads, but had groves and they work just as well. I havent had any problems with mine coming off. I run 14-15 psi.
If you tighten the t-bolts well enough the groves will be fine.

After another track-day struggling to keep the poorly designed crossover pipe from pulling out of the coupler, I have to say I'm much less happy with this purchase. I'm not quite ready to give up on it because it seems like the basic ic is good, but its taking alot more effort to put together a professionally finished package than I thought.

Its actually just the angle that it fits into the coupler after going over the airpump and into the intercooler. The 90 degree bend ends up at an angle to the coupler so the clamp isn't on securely. I'm thinking about trying a coupler with a ~30 degree bend so I can clamp it on securely above the bead/flange.
If I could start from scratch again I would buy the ic without the piping and spend some time figuring out the right piping (or just pay somebody else to do it).

interesting. I havent had any problems with mine coming off at 14-15 psi.
I did when I first put it on...but I didnt know how tight the t-bolts were supposed to be then.
