I've only raced one other RX7 - it was a n/a FC that was modded. I was stock with a boost leak out my lower IC hose boosting about 4 psi. I still pulled him pretty hard on the highway but didn't destroy him - it was fun though and he was pretty cool.

You mean stock TURBO.

We just need one, you FD guys have some issues with you're compensation situations, and you're twin turbos.

BAH!

You guys obviously haven't raced any fast TIIs.

My friend/Mechanic has a black TII that is really ******* fast. Well to me anyways. Before I had my IC, bear in mind, we went to a 1/8-mile track and he beat me. I ran an 8.5 (first run ever at a track and best that day) and he ran a 7.9. I'm not sure how that converts to quarter mile but a 7.9 is fast. His FC is highly modded with raised oil pressure, T04E turbine, everything out of the bay to save weight, and anything else performance-wise you can imagine. I guess his only weak point was using a piggyback fuel controller. Which, in my opinion aided in the death of a couple of his engines.

Yes, TII can be made just as quick as our FDs and in my opinion I would rather be beat by a TII than a FD or a muscle car any day. FD owners, the ones that are running right and including myself, think they are hot ****. So, a little smoking by a TII is just medicine for the ego.

Having a friend with a fast TII has instilled a lot of respect in me for those cars. He used to spank me day in and day out. I wish I had one but my FD has a lot more work to be done.

yeah i know they can be made to run faster than an FD, but yes, like cavell said i meant stock turbo. Just curious how a stock turbo with minimum mods does against an FD.

Some info from the FC side of the fence -

A stock '87-88 TurboII is 186 horsepower, and the '89-91 TurboII is 200 horsepower - this is the figure from Mazda, power at the engine.

With relatively minor mods (exhaust, intake, rewire fuel pump, about 10 psi) a TurboII will make around 220-230 to the ground, right at what a stock FD will make. With decent fuel management, an intercooler, and 11-12psi of boost, you're at around 250-260 to the ground. Again, all on the stock turbo.

With an upgraded (hybrid) turbo, 300ish to the ground is quite attainable. Going with a full T04 turbo setup will make quite a bit of power, just as with an FD.

Really, there are a LOT of similarities between the two. They have nearly the same transmission, the '89-91 engines have the same rotors, etc. The 13B-REW does have larger intake/exhaust ports, which the 13B-T can be ported to get close.

Hell, I know of a guy up in New Jersey with an '88 Turbo 10th Anniversary that was making 495hp to the ground. No kidding. Ran 10's all day long, and actually drove it EVERY DAY.

Both cars really have comparable power output potential. The big difference is the FC is FAR cheaper to buy and maintain, but the chassis of the FD is far more advanced.

They're both RX-7's, and they're both excellent cars. Turbo rotaries are just fun, no matter how you slice it.

I dont plan on driving this thing everyday but only really on weekends. I am also in the process of having the 13b-RE motor build, with a half bridge, and some other goodies, i just need someone to tune this thing when i get done?? but yea come spring time if there are any FD's around that wanna run, come on up to TN, and bring some cash.

There really isnt a difference. It just comes down to what turbo the cars have, the engine is pretty much the same and when modded they weight about the same. Just like comparing to 3rd gens, it just depends on who has the most mods, biggest turbo, and most boost haha

I def agree. I had all the bolt on upgards (exhaust, intake, FMIC, fuel pump, s-afc, avc-r and other misc ****) made 270rwhp/300rwtq @15psi on my Stock S4 turbo... I had NO problems beating stock FDs. Beating them by 2-3 cars....
