Question Any Idea on number of CYM FD's built?

I'm thinking that I would really like a CYM FD. Ocassionally they come up for sale, but the owners ask an extra amount (I guess because of the color).

I'm curious about how many were made of each of the color's 93-95 and what a relatively clean, unmodified '93 without leather with around 50k miles should go for?

There were 350 CYM R1's imported to the US in 93 and then never again. Here are all the numbers - http://alecto.bittwiddlers.com/vehic...-numbers.shtml

I don't know about Canada, but in the US CYM was only available in 93 and only with the R1 package.

and there's another question to ask too. if a car has been repainted chrome yellow mica, does it count as a chrome yellow mica? if cym's command a price premium,
can a repaint expect to get the same amount of money?

It's Competition Yellow Mica, not chrome. And IMO a car that was repainted CYM from another color would not be worth as much as an original CYM, especially since color changes are very hard to do right. The engine bay and other hard to reach places are rarely painted and it makes the whole thing look cheesy.

Well I DO like the color, but don't want to get fleeced because after all it's only paint, the car beneath remains the same! Color is of course personal preference...

So only 350 in all of North America?

No one has answered the secondary question about how much?

i see a lot of cym's going for 20k+. Theres just a huge demand for them. and also they are rare. and if a car is painted competition yellow mica, i wouldnt consider it a real cym at all. i say if you want a cym so bad, just wait around for one to come along, and be ready to dish out a ridiculous amount also. I love cym's. its my favorite color, hopefully i get one one day, if not silver is second on my list

Yeah I know what you mean! I've only seen 2 for sale one for $20k and the other for $25k then I saw a '95 for the equivalant of $16k....go figure, that's way too much of a spread for color

I have a CYM, but repainted it a few months ago. I didn't like the nicks and scratches on the original paint.

I'm not sure what would demand more money, a blemished original CYM or a repainted CYM ($4000 paint job). Any thoughts? I'm curious....

i would pay more for the repainted if the repaint is good. cuz if i bought the original one i would just end up painting it anyways. but like aftermarket stuff you probably won't recoupe 100% of the cost of the repaint.

I think yours would demand more money. I was referring to cars that were originally another color, repainted to CYM, like going from red to CYM. Those cars would not be worth what an original CYM would go for.

I also own a CYM. Bought mine back in 1996 with around 30K on the clock for about 19K. I actually like some of the other colors just as well. I have seen some real nice silver FD's along with the MB's. Kind of funny to see the price back up near to what I paid around six years ago.

Peter Farrel has two excellent CYM's. But are you willing to pay 21 to 24K for them.

hehe... he's my contribution. i agree that there are actually a lot other nice colors too. one thing that sucks about owning a cym is people have convinced me not to mod it too much since it's "rare". i would almost have rather gotten a more common color so that i wouldn't feel like i have to leave it fairly stock.

heh all the cym's seem to be in CA... it's hard to get the cym color to look right in pics. all 3 of our cars look like different shades of yellows.
