Any big guys drive an FD?
Any big guys drive an FD?
Well, I'm a pretty big guy, 6'3 and 300lbs, but I was looking into buying a car (hopefully RX-7) in the next 5 months...I've been losing weight and will continue to do so, so it will be a better fit, so I'm shooting towards being 50 lbs lighter by the time I can afford one..so do you think it will work? Would modifying the seats or steering wheel help? And do any big guys 6 foot plus and 200lbs plus drive an FD?
We're about the exact same size, my R1 fits like a glove, height wise no problem at all but i have relatively short legs for my height. As far as weight, if your calves are on the large size you may have a problem with the steering wheel pretty much being IN your lap.
I am 6' 3" and 220. I really have no problem if I recline the seat a little. But I believe I am on the limit of what could reasonably fit. My father-in-law is shorter but with a 40" waist and he rode in the car only once (I have had it about 4 years).

The original owner was a olympic swimmer. I think he was 6' 8"!
He had the seat sooo far back that when he turned his hed to look right...it was at the rear pillar!
My Brother in law is alittle wide and complains that the seats are too narrow.

I'm 6'3, 230lbs and no real issues with fitting once I'm in it, but getting in and out took practice.
I've got the seat all the way back and leaned down a little so my head only hits the roof on big bumps.
Turning left took some getting used to, though, since there's almost no clearance between my leg and the steering wheel.

Dear Malakian,
You said you plan to lose 50 lbs before your FD. That's great, but what happens if you gain it back? Most people gain back the weight they lose within two years. I say you find an FD now and try it at your current weight. That way if you lose weight you know you'll fit better, and you'll know whether you can fit if you don't lose weight. Good luck. I'm 6'2 and 200 lbs and my head hits the roof. It's also an act similar to the limbo to get in and out. Where there's a will though, there's a way.

6'1" and 215 here. No problems in my car but then it doesn't have a sunroof. In the few FDs I have been in that had sunroofs, my head just touches unless the seat is back and tilted back a ways.
Getting in and out is no problem, just takes a little practice to develope your "move"....lol!

I'm 6'6", and this car (FD) definitely has the most room for me out of my cars. I can say it's better than a 4runner, camry, older FB, and a few others. I don't have a sunroof and I think this helps too. My brother is 6'8" and he can't fit in the car because most of this length is in his legs, so I guess it depends on your proportions too since he thinks the 4runner is better for him. I do put my chair back a little to make extra space, so that might help too :P

6"4" and 230 lbs... no problem fitting. I looked at several sports cars, including domestics, before I bought my FD and this was the best fit. It looks funny when i get out, but I have no problems sitting in or getting in or out. Now I am looking into a rollcage and fittment could be a new.
6"3 and around 220lbs. Steering wheel is too low, my seat is almost all the way back and a bit reclined. My head is dangerously close to the roof. The seas is a bit tight around my legs. I have more space in my CRX delSol, but because of it, I'm quite used to getting in/out of such cars.
