another silly question
The 93 RX that Im thinking of buying has an Auto tranny.
I hate Autos but the car is spotless and well perfect with only 8500 miles on it. I was hopeing that I could swap a 5 speed out with the Auto.
Do the autos and 5speeds have the same cross member and drive shaft? Also does anybody know where I can get a 5 speed transmission. Ive searched all over the web but cannot find anything. Im sure theirs a place to get them other than my local dealership. Also are their any computer concerns. Are they hydro clutches and do they have a resivor under the hood (I had a 5sp before but I forget) and if anybody has an auto out their could you check up by the pedals and see if theirs anything on the firewall to mount the clutch pedal or will I have to weld a mounting plate to the firewall and make a bracket. Any help would be apperciated.
Thanks:

Check this out...converted AUTO to manual. Maybe this guy can help you out.

Driveshafts and differentials are different. If you are going to use the stock manual driveshaft you will need to add an adapter. (See above link.) Maybe you could get a custom driveshaft made?
I would think that you would have to replace the auto CPU with a manual (or go to a stand-alone, like the PFC).
Manuals have a hydraulic clutch and it is under the hood shared space/components with brake master.
Seems like a big job. I would probably avoid the auto and look for a manual. Spend your time and money making the manual spotless. Unless you had a donor with a manual, it would seem to cost a lot of bucks to change over an auto (interior changes, need the 5 spd and driveshaft, new computer, list goes on, etc.).
