Thumbs down Am I getting RIPPED OFF for this rx7?

Hi I spotted this 93 Rx7 twin turbo that I am quite interested in. I live in Canada and there is 95,000 kms on it. The guy said that he is the 2nd owner and that the 1st owner was some 60-yr old guy that treasures cars. The guy told me he had a compression test done and the results were 8.3-8.4 (kg f/cm squared, i think). He says he regularly changes fluids. He has a 3" stainless steel down pipe and also a new cat; it passes aircare. But, he notes that because the diameter of the catback hasn't changed, ECU mods wouldn't be necessary to compensate for fuel/air fluctuations. He has a K&N filter, and that is it. He said he never had any overheating problems and has done all recalls for the car. He said vacuum hoses, timing belt, and basic stuff have been replaced. However, the engine has not yet been rebuilt. Also the rx7 had a $8000CDN accident from the sides to some of the rear. There was no frame damage, he says.

My question is aside from the accident, does there seem to be something he is hiding so he can get rid of his car? I am aware of the engine needing a rebuilt one day, but he told me that since he only put 10,000 kms and drove it softly, I wouldn't be needing one soon.

He is asking for $21,000 CDN or better offer. What do you think the car is worth ( obviously I am going to try to argue the price down)? Also, I think after the test drive, if the turbo sounds alright, I will take it to a rotary specialist to finalize the inspection before I offer a price.

I don't mind much about the body(it's in really good condition, but the accident he had once still bugs me), but I really do care about the engine. Please give me some feedback, advice or some new questions I can ask the seller about. Thanks a lot.

dont buy any rx7 without getting your own compression test done. check the turbos for oil residue on the outside...check for oil leaks around the oil pan...check for boost pattern 10-8-10 if stock....check intercooler plumbing for oil content (interior turbo leakage)...listen for clunking in the rear end when driving over bumps and that it drives straight.

if it checks out fine then you know you will get some time on it before blowing wads of cash.

I would pass unless he really drops the price. It's been in a wreck so who knows what's wrong with the frame. You are looking at a rebuild in the next year or so and maybe the trubos as well. I would suggest going south of the border to find one. It's a pain in the ***, but well worth it. There are so many more cars there, you will do much better for your money. Even in Canada you can do much better dor 20k+. Look in Autotrader. Yeah, so unless the guy starts talking about figures from 14-18k I say pass.

If he told you he changed the time belt, its BS since there is no timing belt on a rotary. Get your own inspection done. Search this site for buying tips.

I just bought a 93 r1/ 25th anniverssary car, with 94000k for $20g's accident free, and bone stock. Like they said look around, and I never like cars that have been in accidents.
