Question Am I getting a Good Deal on my FD??

Hey guys,
was hoping your opinions would help me out with this.
I found an Rx-7 for sale by a Reputable Rx-7 Dealer who fixes and cleans up Rx-7s and sells them for a living. Anyways the engine has 118K and is compression tested and all that stuff and is in perfect condition:
Mods are a :
DP
Catback Exhaust

He's asking $12,200 for it and it's a 1993 Touring that is RED with black leather interior.
Is this a good price for this car, the exterior looks wonderful except for a oxidzed front bumper, that will be replaced with a C-West Body Kit anyways.

Let me know what y'all think ??

Don't you just hate it when ya miss a small detail? Anywho, sounds like a great deal from my perspective based on the info you provided. Mind you, that you will get no more tahn onother 30K and if you are lucky close to 40K miles out of that engine before it is replaced. And I dunno your driving habits, but that would roughly be a year or so for me. Kudos to you for finding a great deal on a rex!

it is a 5spd and the engine has been maintained. Most of the engine is still original but they did replace some internals of the engine so i guess it's like a Semi-rebuild if such a thing exists..

couple more opinions and i think i will know wether i am buying or not.. most likey i will
thanks a lot guys!! girls too

Put it like this..

These cars are getting rarer and rarer here in the states. Too many people picking up the car and wrecking them all over the place.

The main thing to look for is whether you want an Automatic or Manual transmission. Just be prepared to spend some money on the car whether you do it up front with a higher priced car, or a lower priced car that you are going to need to do a little work on...

My 2 cents, if you can find one, and the transmission is what you want, you better get it or you might be waiting a while for another one to come along. Like I said, just be prepared for anything once you get it.

I'd want to know what was replaced. I've never heard of a "semi" rebuild. Most likely it has been rebuilt (hopefully by someone competent). You said the dealer fixes and cleans up rx7's. I'd make sure it wasn't a salvage title car first. I personally would never buy a salvaged FD due to an accident. That's just my personal opinion. The motor does have high miles, but the car is 10 years old. Just remember that any 10 year old sportscar is going to need parts, and alot of TLC.

If it is an auto trans it is high priced. Like every one else has said with 118K the motor is living on borrowed time.

Too bad you want to put a body kit on it, they look SO GOOD stock or with wheels and R1 spoilers. Just my opinion. Those body kits usually fit like crap anyway.

Red w/Black leather is much harder to find than red with tan leather. The black interior is WAY more popular.

good feedback guys.
The body kit is gonna be the Authentic C-West and it will be equipped with some 18X8.5 and 18X9.5 Volk Racing LE37T. There are MANY other goodies planned for the car and one of them is a BRAND NEW Paint job and probably engine within the next 6 months here.

The car does have a CLEAN title, i have already car faxed it..
I'm thinking that i should go ahead and buy it?
what do ya'll say??

Yeah, ****** it before someone else does. Try to pick up any parts you need at dealer's cost while you are at it. Things like interior parts cost a bundle when new.

What's the history of the car? Any accidents or frame damage? If it's all clean, it sounds like a good buy. Try to knock another $500-1000 off if possible. It's not a bad price especially if it's in good shape.

Rotary93, that's pretty darn amazing. I hope it's in good condition. Some FDs with low mileage are in far worse condition than FDs twice their mileage. All I can say is mileage isn't everything.

Jebus! My R1 was 15K with 53K miles. I'd still consider it a good deal. It is in great shape!

I know that this is a long shot, but since they fix and sell fd's, try to get a warranty with your deal. It will be worth the price of paying sticker if anything goes wrong. Also the paint job and new engine will run you at least 7k or more, so that will put your investment at $20k easily. I might put my fd on the market and sell it if the price was right.

if the motor has not been rebuilt recently be ready to rebuild it. your getting burned if there's no aftermarket products to go with it. If they are original miles offer 7000 tops you'll need the other 5000 for a rebuild w/in a year.

Yeah right, who the hell is gonna sell a perfectly running RX-7 for 7k? Don't lower the value of our cars, supra drivers cut each other's throats when they even mention a supra for sale.

With the cars getting as rare as they are, no deal is going to be the same. If you can get one in good condition no matter the price, just be happy.

I picked up my R1 with 107k miles, about 20k on the engine for $13.5. Had all the common mods including a stage 2 street port. Was it a good deal? I don't know. But it was in my city, in reasonable shape, and more importantly I wanted it. Maybe I'm spoiled, but I say worrying about a $1000 can mean the difference in you never finding one or having one in your driveway today. More than worrying what it's worth, I say just try to figure out what it's worth to you personally (and what you can afford). Make sure you have some spare money for unexpected repair. And race it twice so that you can get in on Mazda Comp. Me...I've never looked back! Honestly, I intended on buying the car until I could save enough to trade it in for something better, but now I've gone and fallen in love with it and will probably never get rid of it!

My two cents....
