I just finished polishing my alternator the other night and its ready to put back on the car. I can't figure out how to get the conduction brushes to stay back out of the bearing housing so that I can drop the core back into the rear housing and coils. I know everyone who's polishing things on this forum has beaten this problem. What's the trick. I've tried getting the paper clip through the hole in the back of the cover but I can't feel it getting through anything. Somebody please help me out!

On the back half of the outer cage you will find a pin size hole almost in the center.Take a paper clip and straighten it out and stick it in the hole while from the inside pushing the the three contacts up and allowing the paper clip to hold them up..Place the inner core back in place and when done remove the paper clip.

Ha ha. Yeah, I had been doing that for a while before. I finally got it. I used surgical clamps with the curved tips to push the brushes all the way back inside the housing enough to get the paperclip through. Thanks for the help.
