ALL THESE *(%&@(* HEAT SHIELDS!!

OK - I got serious yesterday and started helping a friend pull off his stock twins - I have to do the same and need the practice...

My GOD - there must be 50 little POS sheetmetal heat sheilds under there (he still had the pre cat too - and that thing was covered with them. He's going back together with a downpipe - so at least the pre cat mess will be gone - but how many of the other heat sheilds should we put back on?? He's also going with a resonated midpipe - so ALL the cats will be gone. (and the AIR pump)

All of them??

The ones that aren't too much hassle?

None of them??

I can see the function of the ones on the backside of the turbos - they keep the LIM from being cooked - but do you really need to completely cover the entire exhaust manifold??

So - the question is, you guys that have rebuilt or upgraded your twins - which heat sheilds did you put back on - and did you melt anything if you left some off??

NOW I SEE WHY SO MANY OF YOU ARE IN LOVE WITH SINGLE TURBOS - I'd say the odds are about 30% that we get all this crap CORRECTLY put back in his car

thanks for the comments

Jim
