Alarm install, drivers side door solenoid

I'm going to be putting an alarm on my FD soon and read that I'll need to put a solenoid in the drivers door.
OK thats fine but what kind is the passenger door??

Is it just a 2 wire like below as I can get them cheap off ebay.

Are you sure the alarm will not be able to control the existing actuator? Should be just a case of intercepting wires and attaching them to the alarm box.

This is what I did, I relocated the repeater switch and mounted a JDM rotating solenoid to the driverside.

From what I have read, the drivers side doesn't have a solenoid. The key is used.

I misunderstood the question. The driver side door does not have one. Since he is in the UK, a USDM passenger one may fit.

Yes the same process would apply over there get a USDM passenger actuator, and modify to fit.

It takes very little modification to adapt the opposite side to accept a stock actuator.

Only problem is relocating the micro switch to work as if it were in the stock position. Again which is not that hard just find a acceptable location, mine was located on the back side of a 2ndary lever (cable side)

Was most likely intalled when an aftermarket alarm was installed on the car.

so when adding keyless entry to a USDM fd, there is already a solenoid in the pass side door one just needs to be added to the driver side?

Yup. Aftermarket alarms can usually control the stock passenger unit.

One reason people try and find a right hand drive passenger door actuator is because the aftermarket solenoids tend to destroy the FD's mechanicals and you wind up replacing more door pieces when it fails at a much higher price than finding one of these actuators. I have a mini write up on the mods needed to make the swap out. i got mine installed but mever finished the hookup as i wanted to retain the stock alarm. Everything you need to do the alarm install is located in the drivers side kick panel.

Is this writup posted yet?

I have the actuator installed and wired into the stock door harness but still haven’t come up with a system I like that will integrate into my existing systems.

I would love to see how others went about fitting this.

This is what I am currently thinking about.

Unfotunately I don't have a program that allows me to attach pictures with the writeup. I was going to use steering diodes for the door lock motor but then came across another issue with the stock alarm. When you use the motor to unlock the drivers door without the key it thinks the car was opened from the inside (broken window reaching in to open) as there is a switch on the back of the key lock that tells the stock alarm the key was used and the linkage trips the micro switch that opens the passenger side motor.

Actually, the stock alarm is mostly fine. Most problems relating to the stock alarm are caused by savages at alarm shops screwing up the wiring and causing interactions between the stock and aftermarket alarms.

I had to replace my CPU#2 (location of stock alarm) because it was damaged by a really terrible install.

I just pulled the aftermarket alarm and everyting is fine now. In any case, there really is no reason to put an alarm in a car - they are pretty much proven useless by now as a theft deterrent.
