Yea, the guy noticed that when he took a look at my wheel. He was saying it's a two piece wheel but it is welded and that he would have to mask off the inner wheel and spend the time just polishing the whole outer lip.

Basically AJ's is going to cover whatever kind of work Wheel Tech does, do you think I should tell Wheel Tech to do it to all four of my wheels like Kinetik suggested?

I just would hate the feeling that the front two wheels are different than the rears even if it doesn't look any different.

I am debatining if I should suggest AJ pays for a whole new set of wheels or have Wheel Tech repair them because from what a lot of people have said when they got their work done there and from their before/after, they do good work.

keep in mind that wheel tech take weeks to do the job. so you'll have no car for a while, some times up to a month.

if you have the choice of doing 4 wheels, i'd go for it. it'll allow u to fix any future blemish easier.

Ask wheel tech, Paul or Jeff, or whomever you're talking too how they are going to polish and clear the part of the lip that is covered by the "KNUCKLED" part of the spoke?

That's my concern and should be yours. I dont' see how they can polish certain areas of that lip.

Personally I'd go back into AJ's, with the peice of paper from wheel techniques stating that the damage caused by their detail job cannot be repaired to the same condition the wheels were in before hand. I would offer AJ's a deal, stating that if they buy you a new set (two, or four) of rims they can keep your old set to try and recover some of the costs by getting them polished and reselling, or just reselling outright. I know it seems like the easy way out to just have wheel techniques 'fix' the problem but is that what you really want? You shouldn't have to settle for someone elses **** up, and people/shops need to realize that, I wouldn't back down for that simple reason alone.

Don't settle. If you do, you'll realize later on what a mistake it was and you'll get angry at yourself.

I think that's what I need to do, I really don't want the easy way out, but with who knows how long those new wheels will be to import into the States. It's going to be pretty hard to convince AJ's that they are going to have to spend the money to pay for new front wheels I think.

Rishie,

I talked to Tim and he told me that they are going to hand polish and buff where the wheel bends out. I also asked him if he could anodize the lip or clear coat it and he said he doesn't do any anodizing, but he will be able to clear coat it.

I talked to AJ's as for them to cover work done for all 4 wheels, but they will only cover the front two because those are the front two they damaged.

I have confidence in Tim and the guys at Wheel Techniques so I'm going to have them do the work. I'm going to tell them to take their time, as I will just borrow my dads truck in the mean time, but I want the wheel to look as good as new when they finish.

I will keep you guys posted with pictures when they get back.

UPDATE:

Going in to talk to owner of AJ's to sort everything out. I am not settling for "refurbished" wheels. If they do not agree to pay for new wheels, I'm going to be taking legal actions.

UPDATE:

Stopped by Wheel Techniques today and talked to Tim. He checked out the wheels and was saying how hard the job was going to be and how long it would take because it is an anodized lip and how the wheels are made. We talked and he told me he would not be able to anodize the lip and I wanted the wheels to come out the same as they came into the car wash and he said he couldn't do that.

I got written proof that he cannot restore the wheels to original conditions and called AJ's while I was at Wheel Techniques telling them that I have written proof now that the wheels cannot be restored and I want new wheels or else I will be bringing them to court. They said they will have to do their research and see if any other shop can repair them, and while I was still at Wheel Techniques, AJ's called Tim and was asking him info and Tim told them he can't restore them. They ask me where I ordered the wheels and all the information so they could look them up.

I drive over to AJ's and Pablo tells me Albert is talking to AutoRnD. I wait around for 10-15 minutes and Albert comes out and has me come into his office and asks if the information is right and I look on the computer and see AutoRnD's website of my wheels and all the info.

Looks like I'm getting new front wheels

All in all, thanks to everyone helping me out and convincing me that I shouldn't settle for a "half-***" fix. Now I know for sure I won't have any problems as I have a new set of wheels being made/shipped from Japan.

Also a big thanks goes out to Rishie at AutoRnD for taking care of me and the wheels. Can't get better customer service than that! He's the man!

The amazing thing is that the guy that cleaned your wheels pointed it out in the first place. Most places would just act like nothing happened and would give you your keys and say have a good day.

Yup AJ is a stand up place. I have a good friend of mine, MAJOR **** BALLER, take his crazy *** Benz, M5, and so forth to AJ. He knows the owner personally and I have spoken with the owner. So when AJ called me and I name dropped he was happy that we knew each other and that I was willing to assist him by giving him a really low price on the wheels.

I have written up the sales order and will be PERSONALLY driving over to AJ tomorrow during lunch to get the check so BRIAN HAS UTMOST CERTAINTY that the order has been placed and paid for IN FULL.

Albert and AJ Auto Detailing are a great place. IF YOU HAVE CUSTOM WHEELS JUST TELL YOUR DETAILERS TO NOT TOUCH THEM. PUT IT ON THE WORK ORDER. I ALSO ADVISE THAT IF YOU LIKE YOUR CAR TAKE SOME GOOD DIGITAL PHOTOS OF IT AND THE WHEELS, ENSURING THERE ARE NO CURB MARKS BEFORE DROPPING IT OFF.

I gave Brian some good pointers as to how he can corner them into honoring their mistakes and it appears that it worked. AJ wasn't going to do it in the beginning, they were going to deny it. However, Brian followed the steps mentioned and they caved in. hehehehehe.

But seriously they are a good company cause frikin over a $1000.00 JUST TO REPLACE TWO WHEELS. They seriously stepped up. The wheels are 750.00 a piece MSRP so it could not have been an easy decision.

I'll update you all tomorrow. ONce again AJ does do great work, just cover your ***. I don't let anybody touch my car. PERIOD. Unless it's Dana, Rotary Racer. He's my idol.

Peace, Rishie

Guys,

I've been around for a while and dealt with many similar situations over the years. If you know the business is wrong, stay calm and keep asking for what is right. They will always use delay tactics and hope you run out of patience (most people do!).

I bought my wife a new 2004 Mazda 6 and the dealer said he would fix a small scratch on the rear lower bumper.. they cheaped out and didn't use their body shop and brought in a mobile repair service to fix it. The result was mismatched color & overspray on the car. I told them no polishing the paint off, only clay bar by hand. They polished it, created swirl marks and I wouldn't drive the car off the lot. One month later, after many discussions with the dealership manager, I hooked up with a Mazda USA rep. and the big wigs at the dealership. I had all of my recorded emails and notes together and the result was the manager caving in, and telling me to pick out a new car off the lot.

Just wait them out, don't get pissed, and be persistent when you have a solid case. Once they realize you're not going to give in, they will fix the problem. Congratulations!

No, let me tell you AJ's Auto Detail wash was well worth the $50 I spent to get an express wax. It wasn't the top of the line detail work as those reach up into the $150-$200+ costs, but I was EASILY able to tell the difference between my kind of wax job and theirs. They tape off everything to make sure no wax gets on the seals or anything like that so it doesn't stain. Sadly, they messed up my wheels and are now paying the price for it, and sadly I have to wait 2-3 months for the new wheels to arrive, but now I know that if I get a detail done, to ALWAYS tell the place any prior things they need to know so something like this won't happen again.

Again, big thanks to Rishie at AutoRnD for helping me deal with some things and helping me stick with not being pushed around.

Let me know when the order is placed Rishie, and go ahead and send me over an invoice so I can have it for my records that AJ paid for it.

Glad things worked out for you. What are you doing with the "damaged" front wheels now? Keeping them as spares? Just curious..........

Well I am still driving on them right now, I possibly will sell them for those who want to buy them and then get them fixed or in general, you can't really tell the damage unless you really look at the wheels so who knows but most likely they will go for sale
