Searched but only found one reference to this.

I have an Air Bag light and it looks like it's caused by the Airbag Diagnostic unit -- anyone have any experience troubleshooting this?

Thanks for any help. I did the clockspring test with the horn and checked the different fuses, book takes me to the diagnostic module next.

Is the diagnostic module "serviceable?" That is, can you replace the diodes etc that may be shot or is it an all or nothing part?

 

There was a bad run of 100uF, 35 V electrolytic capacitors in the Miata's air bag Diagnostic Modules in the early '90s. You can read a seminal Miata Forum thread about this, which details "channelmaniac's" discovery and his fix. The System Diagram of the FD's DM shown on page S-4 of my 1994 RX-7 Body Electrical Troubleshooting Manual is identical to that in the Miata FWM, so I'm thinking the RX-7 DM itself is probably subject to the same problem. The capacitors can be replaced after removal and cleaning the PC board to eliminate short circuits, if you know how to solder electronic assemblies.

However, if the internal "System Down" fuse has blown, you are out of luck. No one seems to know how to find a source for that component.
