Hi,

I have one small problem with a/c. When I turn a/c off the mold smell is coming from the vents.

How can I fix that? This is my first car with a/c, so I dont know how to settle this thing. I should replace the filter for a/c, but on Mazda dealer they dont know anything about the RX7 car, because the car wasnt sold in our country. And they couldnt find the filter for my car.... now I am sitting duck.

Can someone hepl me out?

You need to spray a disinfectant/cleaner on the evaporator coil (buried under the dash) to kill the mold. Make sure whatever you use won't damage aluminum/plastic. You might try a product such as this:

Make sure your a/c driain is working properly as well.

 

Making sure the drain is working is good advice. Look to see that water is being expelled underneath the car.

Getting rid of mold can be difficult. This is what has worked for me. As another poster mentioned above you need an aerosol spray. I've used Lysol spray. The linen scent I find is the best because the smell is the most neutral.

Open up the hood and with the A/C running spray the Lysol into the vents at the bottom of the winshield. Give it a good dose. Make sure the recirculation button on the dash is not pushed in. You want the A/C to draw in the outside air. I spray the Lysol in once or twice, let the A/C run for 2 or 3 minutes. Then I spay in a little more and shut down the system and let it sit. You want the alcohol in the spray to kill the mold. Sometimes it requires a repeat application a day or two later.

Honestly, I haven't had the mold problem in my RX-7. But I've used this technique on another car and it worked.

I just have one question. Does the a/c have a micro filter?

 

Not that I'm aware of. Could've been an addition for newer JDM cars, but I doubt that....
