Old dude - I'm 65. Got a 1st-gen in 1979, sold it in 1993 (didn't have time for 2 RX-7's - barely had time to drive one), a year after I bought my FD new in March 1992. The FD's like having a racecar for the street. I have a real racecar for the track.

30 and i wasn't lucky enough to have a hand me down.

had to work to get my first at 17 years old. Isuzu pick up.
then a second gen rx-7 once my credit grew.
then a Chrysler sebring.
then my FD after 10 year wait.

For years I drove $100 crapped-out old Volvos I got from a friend who had a Volvo graveyard as daily drivers. I'd buy an almost dead one, resuscitate it until it was marginally-safe and driveable. When that one went past the point of no return, I'd trade it back to him and get another one for another $100. I quit doing that when I ran out of patience for working on old, rusted, hulks.

I'm also surprised at the age of the owners here. In part it may be that many of us when they hit middle age tend to have trouble squeezing into small cars. I'm in decent shape but have to admit that it takes a bit of agility to get in and out of the FD with anything resembling grace for this 49 year old body.

I just hope that you kids (anyone under 30) aren't forgetting to fully fund your IRAs and 401k. A nice FD won't cut it as a retirement plan.

Got my First FD '94 Touring @ 27, wrecked it, due to bad luck and misjudgment (gravel in a turn and going to fast). Recouped, re bought, a '93 R1, with a TON of hidden problems, fixed most of 'em blew that motor(bad ecu), rebuilt, blew that motor(bad gasoline), Got an LS1.... @ 32 and Happy ! The total, Cars, Rebuilds, Perfomance Parts, Paint Etc...

Breakdown:
First Car $20K
Second Car (Insurance) $20k
Motor $4K
Motor + Turbo IC, Suspension Etc.. Etc.. $12K
LS1, + Paint BodyWork $17K
Approx. $72,000.00
That's actually Low, Incl. My own Labor, and Things Like New AC Dryers, and Fender Liners, and stuff that breaks on a regular basis we're talking more like $80K

But !!!!!! I have my 401K, and am now in a House in Ca. that will appreciate ofter we get out of this housing slump (before I retire)

NOTE: For anybody Searching, This is the true cost of an FD Fanatic, unless you never drive it / drive it hard.

Lots of bad luck it sounds like. I hope you never go to Vegas or Reno.
