Aftermarket Ignition Question...

I have a Jacobs Ignition powering my two leading coils (MSD2's) - The ignition gets its power directly from the battery (hooks up with the main terminals) - I am using an Odyssey battery and it only has 225 cranking amps. Which is barely enough to start the FD.

Now... I found out that the battery is a piece of crap and had to warranty it to get a new one... I pick this up tomorrow (friday)

My question is... if my old battery was not making enough power to start the car, wouldn't the ignition not be getting enough power either? Therefore.. I would not be getting spark?

The car can run off of the leading two coils... it will run like crap, but it will at least run. I am having a spark issue and in theory I think that if the battery wasn't putting out enough power to start the car, that my ignition would not be powering my leading coils either. I suppose I'll find out for sure when I get the battery put in there...just curious if my hypothesis is correct =P

All ignition systems should have a voltage range in which they can operate. The minimum I've seen is usually 8v. Any ignition should only draw a MAX of 20 amps...and that's on a bad day. Your battery should supply the Jacobs just fine. It's still only getting 12v (or whatever the alt is cranking out (13.8-14)) anyway and once it's running, the alt will really to most of the work.
