Question aftermarked temp gauge and stock sender?

I'm planning on putting in an aftermarked temp gauge. i searched the forum and it seems that people do not recommend using the stock temp sender in the rotor housing. it's the most accurate position imo. why is it not a good idea?

Because different gauges are calibrated to work with different senders.

The aftermarket gauge is calibrated to use its own sender. Unless you can re-calibrate the gauge to use the stock sender, the gauge could potentially read incorrectly.

Or, you can try to fit the aftermarket sender into the stock sender location. I know some people that have fit the SPA gauge sender in the stock location.

i'm kinda dumb when it comes to such detailed things, i always thought somehow that those senders are built with same "norms", because it always seemed to me like "just buy a temp gauge and a sender and everything is fine."

ok, another question would be, what size (diameter, length etc.) does the stock sender have? maybe i can find an aftermarked one that fits.

buy an aftermarket gauge and replace the stock sender with this one. then just tap the thermostat housing for the stock sender. i have done this twice with my greddy gauges. the size of the stock sender is M10 0.5" pitch. this is a very fine pitch for an M10. see attachment. i'm not sure what the thread size for other brand's senders are. you might want to ask around.

I just reviewed my notes and whoops...the pitch is 1.00 not 0.5. It is still an M10m though.

While on the subject...

Does anyone have the throttle body coolant line tapped with a sensor?

I have an SPA sender (that came with my SPA gauge) in the stock position. It works great.

Senders that are 1/8"NPT, such as SPA and most others, will thread into the stock water temp sensor location.
