How likely is this to do anything (the bits on the roof)

Not much unless you need better reception for your satellite radio stations.

It will do the same as the supports that hold up the wing. it might help at 200+mph.

Mitsubishi and Subaru use the vortex generator. They say it is designed to flow more air to the rear spoiler for added downforce.

If these are functional, I would guess they trip up the flow to create turbulence flowing over the rear wing. If they actually developed this in a wind tunnel, it would suggest they got better results with the wing picking up turbulent flow, or if it was transitional flow, that staying completely turbulent was a more stable configuration. If it was really savvy it might relate to the aerodynamics of the car in a yawed orientation (cornering or crosswinds).

In summary, I think if those things had a purpose it would be specific to that car and spoiler, and I would want evidence that they were developed for that car, and not some tuner junk that emulates the winglets sprouting out of F1 cars.

Those are just the shark fins used for satellite radio on new cars. The guy just stuck them all over the car to make them look cool.

After looking at the website, I agree they're just junk stuck on the roof. It's drifting, after all.

There's more to it than that:

The Mr has...
1. Lighter aluminum roof (weight savings of about 9lbs)
2. Bilstein suspension (slightly smoother ride)
3. BBS wheels (1.5lbs lighter than regular Enkei wheels)
4. 6spd Tranny
5. Boost, Oil pressure, volt meter gauges (crap mitsu quality)
6. Vortex generator (Interrupts airflow so more downforce is applied to wing)
7. Zero lift kit (really doesn't make any huge differences)
8. HID
9. Better resale value.
(fm RSX forums)

If only the R1 or R2 was that different...
