This is how I connected the harness.

First take the wires out with the connector pins

Looking forward to mounting bracket solution. I don't have ignition problems on my setup now, but I'd rather overbuild than have just enough.

Installed these in my RHD, placed her in the location of the ABS pump, she fired up in one, these coils are brilliant.... Installation was a breeze thanks to Chris.

I'm am so getting AEM independent Marine coils soon! :icon_tup::bowdown: Can't compromise high boost and tuning on the Haltech Ignition tables with Wasted Spark and stock coils..

^ Can you tell us your source for this info?

TeamRX8 02-04-13 02:49 PM

"jalai" from the efi101 forum

these are bench tests made before AEM started rebranding them

it's not just dwell, but also the dwell vs voltage mapping

this is especially important. On the GM truck coil it will auto-trigger if a specific energy level is reached/exceeded; at 14V this occurs just under 5mS dwell. On the Mercury coil it will also pull some serious amp draw

not a fan of waste spark configuration either

So is their a disadvantage in running these coils or do you have any precautions members should take before deciding to run these coils?

C.Ludwig care to elaborate on the above comments and charts?

C. Ludwig 02-08-13 02:25 PM

Comment on?

This guy has tested a ton of coils and his info is very interesting. His reading for the 3ms charge time is lower than what I would expect. The 5ms a little higher than I would expect. In the end, if you run the coil at the 4.5ms I recommend in direct-fire or wastespark, you get an ignition system that's putting out well over 100mJ of energy, easy to assemble, relatively inexpensive, and likely to last the life of the car.

Thanks for clearing that up in English :)

MIKE_RX7 02-20-13 08:10 AM

Hi guys,
Anyone knows were i can find a wiring diagram about those coils? Also from were to buy and settings for power fc?
Thanks
Mike

^ PM, C.Ludwig he can hook you up with everything you need.

What's the status on the brackets? Looking to get a package deal on coils, harness and bracket :)

C. Ludwig 02-20-13 09:14 AM

Dead in the water at this point. I need to have the brackets re-cut. Right now we're so far behind on the list of jobs we have lined up it's not funny. I just can't dedicate the time to the bracket project right now. Sorry guys.

We may have what you're looking for  We've been working on an AEM coil package and it's nearly complete. Below is a link to the information/interest thread.

Thank you for the diagram cohbra.
Hey SBGarage nice Autocad desighn you make there;) it must took several hours to Finish.
But does it worth it afterall?
The basic thoughts of mine are : out of heat, space between each other, connectors must been easy to see so to see clearly the L1 L2 T1 T2 sighns on the wiring.

Thank you ALL

Flying_solo 02-21-13 12:05 PM

SBGarage, you're killing me. I need one of everything from you.

C. Ludwig 02-23-13 06:12 AM

We're now shipping the semi-plug-in harness. No more splicing. Just as VRX8 shows in his post a few posts up, all you need to do is depin four terminals from the ignitor connector and insert them into a new connector (provided) that plugs into the new harness. The connector VRX8 used is from AMP and isn't from the same manufacturer or series as the OE Mazda ignitor connector and terminals. We're using the matching manufacturer and series for perfect fitment. We'd love to use the actual mating connector for the existing OE connector for true PnP installs, but it simply doesn't exist in the manufacturer's catalog.

We're also now offering plug-in harnesses for FCs which have been converted to run the PFC, AEM, Haltech, etc. with plug-in or patch loom connected ECUs. In addition, we've done quite a number of custom harnesses for FD and FC owners that are not running a PFC and want to take advantage of 4-channel ignition capability of their AEMs, Haltechs, Adaptronics, etc. with 4-channel output. As always, tell us what you have and we build something specifically for you.

The innovator, not the imitator.

Just wanted to give a big thanks to C Ludwig for the harness and the other forum members for the bracket ideas. I mounted mine in the V pattern shown in prior posts and just to warn other members, it is a VERY tight fit and the bracket must be made precisely so that the boots do not contact the hood.

I don't have a direct pic of the coils but here's a engine bay pic and you can see them in the top right.
