HI i have a 94 FD … with a 6 point roll cage WELDED in. real nice cage. I am tall and git my head on back of cage and it is a pain to get in and out. I do not believe i will be turning it into a 10 sec car..
I do not want to ruin the car buy removing welds…but i will have a shop do it if i decide to.. Main concern is not wanting to harm car and i like the factory look.
Please advice…should i keep the cage.
Does a 4 point make sense…where i can at least get in and out easier?
any opinions?
Not ruining the car is my top foundation.
I believe with out the bar going across the door will make it a lot more enjoyable for me.
I plan on upgrading car and do have a big single turbo set up for it..Again i don't believe i will be tracking it..But you never know.
thanks in advance guys
If you dont like the cage, get rid of it. It wont hurt anything to have it cut out. I might leave the plates, have the tubes cut out and ground down smooth.
you should decide what you're going to do with the car. i cut the front half of the cage out of my track toy, my cage was pretty crappy so removing the front was a win. i'd leave the plates on the floor, and just cut the bars.
If you really sit that far back, I'd be afraid to drive unhelmeted on the street like that. There's not much of a headrest on the stock FD seats and even if there was you'd be at risk of contacting that bar as your head swung around in an accident. That pool noodle foam on the bar will not help much in a real impact.
If you're worried about the car, try to find a good race fabrication shop to cut the bar out. They'll know what they're doing. Shouldn't be hard to find one in NC I bet.
From the looks of those pics, that car is a good way from factory original. You've got a blank canvas - set it up how you want it.
Seconded -- if you're hitting your head on the bar under normal usage you're set up for massive head trauma in what would otherwise be a minor accident.
