Adding Toggle Switch for Air Pump Control

For tuning purposes, I will occasionally have to temporarily disconnect the Air Pump connector. Some of this wiring is getting on the older side / brittle, and I'm not thrilled to have to keep unplugging / plugging back in. I was curious if anyone has wired up a switch in-line between the two connectors, that would allow you to toggle it on/off? It's possible that this would be too custom, or require a relay, because of the amount of current draw. But figured I would ask anyway.

Thanks!
Stephen

The stock setup does use a relay. I'm not sure what is the easiest way to go, but you could maybe more easily add the switch on the ECU trigger wire?

^Yep that's what I'm thinking. That shouldn't be too hard to sort out.

I did this this summer. It's very simple. I have a toggle switch behind the mount for my PowerFC, next to my glove box. I tapped into the ECU wire for the magnetic clutch for the air pump. You can do it under the hood at the connector or at the ECU. It doesn't have to be a high power or high amperage switch. I used a flattish plastic toggle that is good for a few amps. I use mine more for the exhaust smell and to constantly monitor my AFR's without any distortion. I only use the air pump at startup (smoother startup and less smell) and when I pull into the garage when coming home. Since I have an aftermarket metal cat, which still has a significant odor from the exhaust, I don't want the attached garage smelling like car shop and getting my wife getting angry with me.

@mikejokich - Thanks for the recommendation! Lol, good plan – having experienced what my garage smells like idling for a few with the air-pump disconnected, I could see that becoming a world of hurt in many ways. There's such a wire mess behind my ECU that I'd probably go local to the air pump connector. I might try to figure out what kind of male/female connectors that the air pump plug uses so that I could make a semi-permanent splice in with a switch attached. I try to avoid cutting wires on that car. Will update once I get that sorted!
