Can someone please tell me what does that thing do exactly. I have looked in Rob's site and in the sequential turbo simplifation he removes it.
Everytime i go under the manifold, i always have that thing in the way and it is hard as hell to remove and put back on.
what are the consequences of removing it?
thanks a lot

The Air Control Valve takes air from the air pump and directs it into the exhaust manifold and into the cat. It is an emissions control device that really does something measurable.
If you never run an airpump, then it does not function at all.
You need to get the RX-7 manual and do some reading grasshopper.

well i do have the manual but it is written how to check it and how to dismantle it but there is no place that shows what everything does.
so i guess i shouldn't get rid of it until i remove my main cat...
thanks, that is what i wanted.

Hey Chuck,
I haven't been on the forum for a while and I still haven't done the non-seq mod that you sent me the instructions! But I do have a question to ask about the ACV while the topic is up...
What would happen if I took off the ACV and installed a blockoff plate. In hawaii they don't check for emissions, so I don't really need the cat. I still have my stock cat installed because I don't have the cash to get a FC. I am still running just an intake, DP and catback exhaust. Is there anything detrimental that'll happen to the car other than the cat getting damaged? If not I might consider removing ACV. I've read the manual also but didn't get anything out of it that would make it seem detrimental, except that my emissions would be messed up. Thanks for the help...

ulator, check your pm and e-mail. So how's your 2nd turbo doing? i've meet a few more people in hawaii with rx-7's, we've got to meet up some time. anyway, i don't think you should worry about it, my brother just got an fd with a straight pipe exhaust, and is avc valve is making noise to. Just leave it alone, you don't want to break anything that's not broken. But if you're really gun ho about it, i guess blocking it off wouldn't do anything. Aren't you worried about over boosting witht the midpipe?
Ulator,
If you are not running an air pump, the ACV is useless. Remove it and put on a blocking plate like you said. Without air going to the cat, it can clog up faster than normal.
You can run the airpump even with a MP. Connect the cat pipe to a pipe welded to the MP. This will cut down on the gasy exhaust smell and even clean up the exhaust some.
