AC Compressor from '99 Car

Hi all, i attached a picture of a some differences im seeing with an AC unit from a crate motor from japan.

the '94 compressor has tapered (almost conical)

the '99 has straight cylinder fitting

my wire solenoid keeps going out. i was going to take the one off the '99 compressor and put it on my old '94 compressor.

i was thinking maybe just throw in the low mileage '99 compressor

can i use existing ('94 tapered fitting) with newer '99 compressor?

or should i just swap the solenoids and be done?

The later compressors are probably designed for R134a instead of R12. It should be on the label on the back.

That may explain the difference in fittings. I'd just find a good used compressor, the US compressors 93-94 are all the same, 95 they changed to 134a.

my car is a '94 with stock R134a. do you think the compressor i have is intended for R12?
picture attached.

regardless ill see if the fitting is compatible, if not then ill just swap the solenoid and use my old compressor.

94's came stock with R12 systems. The sticker is hard to see on your old one. It's possible it was converted to 134a, though.

Later Model use a different compressor, and yes it's designed for R134a

I saw it and compared them in person. the single wire plug is the same obviously, big different compressor.

Dale is correct. my car stock with R12. found the retrofit r134a sticker on the hood.

the stock tapered fittings do not fit on the '99 r134a compressor.

i tried different orings on the r12 compressor but they didnt fit very well. ill look into that later.

i ended up buying a clutch/solenoid kit for the AC unit. its all installed now. will vacuum it out and do a leak test before filling it back up with r134a.
