99 tails VS. US tails

i was told that the circles are not the only difference in the 99 spec tails compared to US tails... can anyone elaborate on this, or maybe show some picture differences, i tried looking at pictures for comparison but i cant see it, or maybe its just the angle or lighting in the picture, but all i see is the circles... i mean i could pay 60 bucks to have mine converted or i can spend 550 on a JDM set... someone help me out

As far as I know with the conversion you get a similar look, but I believe the circles are painted onto the glass from the inside, but with the JDM ones there are plastic circles intead of the squares inside the tail light assy. Other than that I have never heard anyone say that there is another difference. Other than the circles I believe they are identical.

if you ask anyone with genuine 99 spec taillights (me) they will say that their is a noticeable difference. Most of the converted lights "circles" do not have the correct spacing between them. When they are lit up, their is no look of depth in the converted lights like their is in the 99 specs. It just doesn't look as much of a solid light. Also the circles on the genuine lights stick out about 1mm from the black part so they "bubble out". In my opinion the genuine lights are for the people that find more value in the details that the taillights give. If you don't really care to much about the taillights, you just care that they have the "circle" pattern then just convert them.

Dmoney pretty much summed it up
I have pics of my converted set and my real 99specs and you cannot tell the difference
in person someone who knows the difference can point out which is which but otherwise save your $$ for a wothwhile upgrade

Nope middles a slightly different. Amd ive noticed a differnerance in Real JDM and converted when lit up. As far as the middle one has the red up front and one has the red recesed a bit into the light at least thats what i noticed when I got mine.

Just buy someone's taillights then ship them off to get converted, once they get back just switch em out. Then sell your OEM.

I don't notice the difference between U.S and 99 spec 3rd brake light. Can someone post comparison pics?

Fd newbie is correct, the 99 has circles that stick out about 1mm... though, i doubt anyone could see the difference between real and fake.

When i converted mine, i found out that my passenger taillight had been replaced. how did i know? because i had a 99 spec light, it just wasn't blacked out around the circles. if you can't notice a non blacked out 99 spec light to a 93 oem light, i doubt you would notice a real 99 compared to a converted. just make sure the circles are the correct size. I was lucky to be able to use my one tail light as a template.

x2 on sevenlust he did a great job, heres how he did mine, he also fully polishes them and removes any scratches - highly recommended

i think the 99spec circles are a tad bit smaller though.

Wondering why everyone calls them 99 spec lights, they were introduced in 1996.

Another difference is the turn signals are slightly lower then the break lights on the authentic 99 spec.
