99 Fans p/n?

Hey guys I ordered some 99+ fans from Mazdaspeed Motorsports. He said it was odd that the p/n came up in stock all over the US. Usually the 99+ parts are only stocked in the So Cal location so it is possible that the fans are used on some other type of Mazda. The P/N he had was different than the 93 fans and came directly from the 99 parts book.

Anyway they were about $50 for both. I'll let you know what I get in the mail.

I got them today, here are the part numbers off the Mazda box for what are supposed to be 99 fans. I'm at work right now so I can't tell you if they are the same diameter as the stock fans. My memory tells me they are the same size but with 5 and 7 blades, I'll check later tonight.

RF2A-15-140
RF1A-15-140

$21.60 each from Mazdaspeed Motorsports.

Another cool thing I got was a NEW guage cluster face w/chrome rings. FD01-55-447A, $64.80 from Mazdaspeed also.

I wonder what those fans go to - might make for good junkyard finds if it's from a 626 or something like that .

Did you verify that they are the right thing? You could probably also compare with the pic on JT Imports' site.

Just got off the phone with Ray Crowe, asking if he knew what Mazda vehicle those fans came from. His system is designed such that they can't reverse-lookup a part number to find what car it came from. But, from what he was saying (he actually started chuckling as I was reading him the part number) I'm not the only person inquring about that part . He said he's determined to get the answer, and he's gonna call me back and let me know.

From what he could tell of the part number, it's either from a Mazda MPV, or an old 626 diesel or something weird.

I'll keep you guys posted when I hear from him.

OK, Ray called me back. Fans are from a 2002 Protege 2-liter. Probably not easy to find one at a junkyard, being so new, but the price is so cheap who cares .

So, we can call it the "Protege fan mod" .

So are your original fans toast, and you just need to replace with something that fits, or is this an "upgrade" (you expect significantly more airflow)?

nice, i like it! the longer i have my FD, the more it seems that im just starting to "borrow" parts from other cars. miata thermo switch, miata wheel/airbag, and now the "protege fan mod." ... oh, and if you want to keep your cruise control with the 99 miata wheel, you also need to borrow the protege cruise switch dealie that goes on the wheel. this is getting sad... im piecing my FD back together with bits from lesser cars... oh well, long live the 7

now someone go buy these things and tell me if it makes a difference w/ cooling! (i think i have a burnt out motor as well... i wonder if the protege motors are the upgraded "lower amp" motors... and if so i wonder now if they will bolt into my fan assembly housing

Heh, yeh I called very early this morning about the fans, and told Ray that he might expect some calls about it. Nice guy, he was totally into finding out the information without the need for me to ask.

Just wanted to add that the part he can get is the 5 blade fan. The other part number RF1A-15-140 does not come up in his computer, which I can assume is the desirable 7 blade fan : /

Well ahhhh hah......just proves that some people are overcharging for their parts.
Guess jt-imports wont be selling to many of these for $100.95!

joedirt88---I guess in all of your wisdom, you would know that the US and Japan are two different countries right?

Anyway the PN# isnt the one I have, not saying its not correct though, maybe it was changed over that way, in fact another Mazda car does have these fans though.

I thought the fans jt-imports sold are the 7-9 design, not the old 5-7.

Jason, if you get a set of the newer 7/9's let me know. I need motors too. I redid my ignition and will be using a grip of power (4 X MSD 6A's) so I have to find ways to lower overall amps.

You are assuming everyone can get these "without" a mazda competition account and discount. If so, then add the retail markup. If not, unless he can get wholesale then add retail markup, add profit and add shipping. If I had access to the Japanese market I could get OEM R1 strut bars for $25ea.

jspecracer7---I havent heard of any 7 and 9 blades. I have the parts book for 99-02 and there is only 1 set of fans and they are 5 and 7.

GoRacer---I wish they stayed at $25 though haha, usually when I get around to getting them and packing and shipping them, they would have to be at least $80 if I bought them for $25. thats the bummer part. Ok off the top lets just pick YAHOO since you quoted from there haha. 2,500 yen, plus 3% (yahoo fee) plus shipping (up to the shipper) paypal 3% off the top, shipping for a strut bar is right at 4,500-5,000 so hints the price. I wish I could keep up with the prices for used parts, usually what I try to do on those is pick a medium and then post info on the parts, the yen for me is like 102, but when I started it was floating around 120-125 and that was before the 9/11 thing.

If I didnt have to ship parts, say I brought the parts with me like I do everytime I come to the US to save everyone on shipping then I would beat even mazdas price in the US. I do try to do this as much as possible (quite a few people I have helped out in the past) and last years SEVENSTOCK I gave away over $800 worth of parts, since I like to hook people up as much as possible.

Hey Guys, don't dog on JT-imports pricing. Figure Mazdaspeed's prices are about 50% lower than list price so he isn't really screwing anyone over.

As far as matching the fans up to the stock fans I haven't done that yet as I am out of town for the holiday. I'll post an update when I get back with a pic or two.

One of the things you guys didn't comment on was the guage cluster face. Many cars have screwed up chrome rings or scratched up lenses. It helps make the guages look a lot better, I thought the price was reasonable also.

As far as 99+ parts Mazdaspeed told me they could get the front bumper, etc. We priced the brakes and the front calipers were $1 more than I saw someone else advertising them for. $326/ea for the front calipers, $158/ea for the rotors. They said the brake pads were different than the 86-98 cars. Does anyone sell aftermarket brake pads for the 99+ rotors? It'd suck to get bigger brakes while having to use OEM pads. OEM pads are good for the street but if you NEED bigger brakes then you'd probably end up with lower braking performance.

Hmm.. I honestly doub that a manufacturer like hawk would carry pads for 99 spec brakes. The only brand that I can think of off the top of my head is project mu. They're brake pads are stupid expensive and not worth the money .. IMO. Anyone else have a take on this?

are those for the red calipers and crossdrilled rotors? is there a difference in price between 99 spec and the spirit r parts? hmmm i thought the pads were the same size as the 93 ones... just that they get moved farther out on the rotor for more leverage (which would mean they should wear out faster than in our rotors)
