Is the 99 body worth it?....
After thinking very carefully, id want the 99 spec body on my rx7. Before i wanted a C-west body kit but i didnt want to seem like a ricer, so i thought of converting the style to JDM stock.
Does anyone have either a c-west body kit, a race on usa body kit (off brand of the cwest), or the 99 spec body? Thanks for any feed back. |

Is it worth what? Having to buy the bumper, pay to have it put on and painted.
For a stock set up? no For better flow to an aftermarket oilcooler/intercooler set up? Depends |
What are your current mods? Knowing that would really help us to help you.
|
Is it worth it to you??
|
Depend on how much you are willing to spend.. 99+ OEM body parts aren't cheap.. complete front end w/ fogs, undertray, brake ducts, lights, rear spoiler will run you close to 3k.. and you have to get it painted.. I had mine sitting around for 1.5 years before put them on my car.. because I didn't want to have just the bumper painted. So, waited until I painted the whole car.. My other FD, I bought it w/99 stuff on.. Also complete 99 front end with brake ducts, undertray, lip, support, etc.. minus the rear spoiler.. and all painted together with the car...

I agree..not many people have the 99spec look...plus how can it be played out when it's a newer stock look..it's like saying that 93-95 stock looks are played out since everyone have them...
|
Check this scenario:
Let's say that 100% of the people on this board have the 99 spec. When was the last time you saw an FD? And the time before that? Where they part of the forum? There is no such thing as a played out FD. There just isn't enough of us around. If you are seriously thinking about going 99 check out this thread (scroll to my reply): It's now or never bro. https://www.rx7club.com/forum/newrep...eply&p=3683214 |
I personally think it is nice, but I would get something more functional cooling wise for track use, and it would be cheaper as well..... the high cost of oem stuff is kind of a turn off to me ... oh well
Edwin |
Check my sig. I love my 99 front, makes the car look much meaner. Also, they openings for the rad and esp for the oil cooler(s) are much bigger. See, it's a *functional* mod :D

 the 99 spec is played out ??? its a factory part, mazda designed it to look that way...
rotoboy is a hater ! only to put the 99 spec front on both of his cars in a few months |
It's alright. Worth it? That's on you. The bumper you have is perfectly fine. If you want to change the look of the car then it may be worth it. I hate the plate holder though so I'd have to go with a knockoff that has it shaved.
|
I think the original front with the 99 spec lip is the best looking front end for an FD. I have searched for over 2 years to find a better looking kit and the only thing I like as much is the original mazdaspeed a-spec type II bumper, but good luck finding that.... I would keep the loot or put it into other performance aspects. Just remember-opinions are like a$$holes, everyones got one and they all stink. Just do what floats your boat.-B

damn wow i guess i offended everyone
to me its played out, cuz i see to many not just on the board also here in socal it was just my .02 damn i didnt say it look bad , i like it alot just wanna be diffrent i guess thats why i stayed stock front with just a lip, cuz i contemplating the idea of a '99 front, but seeing it all the time made me back out |
If it only were'nt for that plate holder. Good thing for RotaryExtreme.
|
if you are looking for a c-west kit, i have an orignal one for sale:

I have the sexy style kit from rxecret7.com and im planning to buy the 99 front end because its made of eurthane. Almost all the kits are made of fiberglass and is easy to break. I broke mines 5 times in one year. 99 is worth it, just my 2 cent
|
I think with stock 99spec look, you can not go worng...
I chose to have the 99spec look and I'm very happy with it. |

If you are going with the 99 spec, get the real thing. The replicas (w/o the front plate holder) look kinda weird in my opinion. Plus, there is something to be said for OEM parts fitting on the car and lasting longer than fiberglass.
|
I like the 99 spec. The openings do improve the looks a lot. There are some better looking front ends, i like the mazdaspeed as well. However huge advantage of the 99spec- Its polyurethane. No worries about shattering the front end cause you accidentally bottom out once or twice

Also, seeing seven stock pics, only car with 99 was rzograbian's.. Less than 40 could be true..

if you get 99 front...might as well get 99 belly, 99 oil cooler ducts, 99 brake ducts(is that what they're called? under the oil cooler), then what about the R1 wing??
Rich's looks good, I think the rims set it off. But a 99 front with 93 wheels looks like ass together. I think a 99 front and 99 rims and 93 wing would look like ass as well. |
If you like it then get it, it doesn't matter what other's think. Dont spend your money on other's views, "Be a leader Not a follower". :D

not saying its played out, but i would say there is over 100 99 spec fronts in the US. i have seen so many at different events. the shop i go to has at least 5 fds with the 99 spec bumper at any given time.
imo 99 spec is probably the best looking body modifications someone can do right now and for the long run. in the future say 5-10 years from now current body kits will probably look like crap. think of how many people had the veilside at some point and now it looks disgusting. steve |
So true. Do what makes you happy. Why try to please everyone else. It won't be too much fun if every FD looked exactly the same. Just my .2$
|
Personally, I think it looks badass....That will be pretty much the only body modification that I will be doing to mine....

i personally love mine. you don't know how many people i've had come up to me in public and ask when the 2004 or 2005 models came out. it just adds a little something without being too overdone

Check out how many photos of cars with 99 OEM bumpers don't even have a plate installed????? What's the point???? Now that looks stupid! OEM parts fit better & lasting longer? Where the hell do you think they get the mold to make the fiberglass part? From the OEM part! Does fiberglass have a 1/2 life? Are all those 50's-60's Vettes going to crumble into dust any day now? Typical knob who believes & repeat everything he has ever read on the internet as the gospel. Goes like this......... I heard from this guy who said his friend read somewhere that a mechanic said that it's bad!! I am not sure why, but he had a RX7, years ago, so he knows his shit! Oh yea, have to finish with................ that's my $ .02 My car has no plate & no plate holder & is made from fiberglass. Should I cross my fingers??? Gosh do I look dumb now!!!! |

I think a 99 front and 99 rims and 93 wing would look like ass as well. i am planning on getting the cooler ducts and brake ducts, but need source them. The oil cooler openings on the 99 front are ~100% bigger than on the oem bumper. I also agree that the 99 bumper looks like shit with the stock wheels. I have seen that on my car and it was nasty. Btw, Matty Alston speaks very highly of you and your fd knowledge & work, just fyi :) |
hey, i got the 99 belley but what i need ASAP is the oil cooler ducts and the brake ducts! the stock bumper ones look like shit! and the brake ducts dont even fit inder there anymore!!
let me know if any of you guy's get and word on it! -Roman

let me know if any of you guy's get and word on it! -Roman R magic for "fiberglass" oil cooler ducts. Similar to the stock oil cooler ducts. Only designed to perfectly fit the 99 front end. A little pricey @ $150 pr., but hey it's only money. |
chuck at rotaryextreme is doing a group buy on the 99 oil cooler ducts. If you want one, you can join it at the nopistons.com forum..

I have a type 2 Feed bumper and I'm thinking of changing it to a 99 oem bumper. You guys think it's worth it.

99 spec look is the way to go, clean and aggressive
|
Here is mine . I personally like the 99 look. Looks more agressive.

I think the 93 wheels look fine with the 99 bumper.
|
I'd say 99+ body worth because there is no fitment problem unless you buy the REAL japanese aftermarket brand but its more expensive shipped to US.
