99-2002 Radiator?

I have a stock FD, and I'm attempting to keep it as stock as possible, replacing parts with OEM Mazda parts only. I'm in the process of collecting parts to replace most of the cooling system, and I was wondering if the radiator from the later model JDM FD's would offer any benefit in cooling abilities while maintaining the OEM route. Couldn't find much on the forums about this, as most seem to go Koyo or Fluidyne.

Any information would be helpful. Not even sure if the later model radiator would fit properly, or where to obtain one.

Thanks.

the later radiator is slightly thicker, 27mm vs 25mm. i think the fin count per square unit of area is different as well. it does drop right in, and it does work better than the 92-97 radiator.

the part number is N3G1-15-200 and several years ago, Mazda Comp used to stock it.

my friend has one in his car and coolant temps are fine, initially he was running stock twins @17psi/370rwhp, but he switched to an Apexi kit, and is making something like 360rwhp@14psi, the car goes up and down mountain roads, so it only gets used hard

They still have plastic tanks.

We S8 owners ditch them for Koyo's.

I get it with the plastic endtanks, but I hear the Koyo's don't fit properly in a stock vehicle. I'm attempting to completely restore a 94' Chaste White with 33k miles on it. I'd like to attempt to put only OEM parts in the vehicle.....just my thing. The car will remain stock as far as power numbers go, so I wont need any real additional cooling, but figured maybe the later model radiator would add at least some benefit.

Any ideas where i could pick one up?

Anyone on FDRX7.com with an S8 has one in his garage. Hundreds of them taking up space.

I gave mine away.

I would suggest if your looking for great fitment and upgrade over stock. You should look into the FLUIDYNE aluminum radiator. Its a nice piece but cost higher then the KOYO though.

Gomez, are those radiators truly going bad? Or are people replacing them for pre-emptive purposes?

Get the madazcomp/Davis radiator

Drops right in, is better than the stock for cooling, reliability (all aluminum) and it has cool little duct pieces attached to the sides which helps with air flow.

Mishimoto is your best bet for a stock setup. Its not as thick as the Koyo so you won't run into issues with the airbox and intercooler. The only issue is the ast nipple is the wrong size so you need to either weld on a different one or use a reducer.

I run 99spec radiator + 99spec fan. On the street there's no different. but on the track (compare to my fluidyne) it's -5->-10F. I used to see 200->210F. now it's between 190F->200F.

Tnn, where did you obtain the radiator and fans, and was any modification required for fitment of either?

it took me over a year to obtain that 2 items. I was lucky enough to get the radiator through mazdaspeed club (friend's friend). wait time was 3 months. There's no modification needed.

the 99 spec fan I got from: ????! - ??????????????????

I swapped out the fan hardness, cut the wires and connect color-for-color. that's it. 99 spec fan do add improvement.

Fans make absolutely no difference at all while you are at speed and may actually hinder flow.

Interesting that the 99 rad is so efficient. Pretty cool, however I'd bet the Davis is still the better overall radiator.

Fritz, the reason for my interest in these parts is to keep the car as close to stock as possible. I know for a fact that the aftermarket radiators are much more efficient for the most part, I just thought it was an interesting question, and couldn't find any info after some searches. The only reason I asked about the fans, was interest in simply getting newer parts as the fans in my car are now 20 years old.

Understood and if you can find some low mileage jspec fans and radiator combo I'd be all over that

N3G1-15-200 is not cheap, Mazdaspeed stop selling it years ago, back then it was like what 3-400 bux? now even in Japan is like 7-800 bux, so getting 1 and shipping it to US is gonna run u like 900 bux or more easily.

so unless you REALLY want to have it, it's not really worth the price.

Its kind of amazing to me that the newer radiators aren't in this country. I've checked around a little, I either have to find someone with a front clip from a newer car, or order one through Mazda Comp.

Sent him a PM, but checked his profile and he hasn't been on the forum since October. Wonder if there is anyone else on here with one. Funny part is, used ones with very low mileage are literally going for $20 on yahoo auctions in japan.

Anyone have experience with Rinkya? Or other Yahoo Auctions middle-man companies? I can find just about anything for the RX7 through Rinkya. It seems they are a third party buyer, and you pay them. Wondering about shipping, of course....

Pre-emptive, in the main.

Mine was 10 years old and had 35,000 miles on it when I swapped it out.

That is the company that makes them. If I remember correctly they only sell directly to the public for custom units. Any vendor could pick one up for you...
