I tried to search, but I can't search on "96". I might have access to some 96 JDM stock turbos. The seller rates them at 280hp. Is this true? I thought the 280hp ones were only 99+.

 

nope, 96 JDM turbos are the same as earlier - the hp change was from 255 --> 265hp (ps, actually), but that came through revised intake

 

1993-1994----255hp all of them
1995-1998----255hp and 265hp depend on which model you get
1999-2002 all 280hp

 

Last one is incorrect. There are several models from 1999 to 2002 that are still 265hp. I know this because I have the Japanese 2002 brochure and it shows the specs for that. The 265 hp models appear to be the automatic versions from what I can gather.

My understanding of the 255 vs 265 is the efini pipe, but this is not fact, just what I have been told and read. The turbos are identical as our 93-95. The 280Hp are the abraidable housings that reduce actual clearance between the housing and turbo rotor to almost nothing because it rubs against it at the initial startup.
