96~98 spec harness

Question on harness.

would the japanese 96~98 (265ps model) harness plug into my US spec engine (255ps)? Also, would the gauges work as well?

Thanks

Not 100% sure, but I'm gonna say no. They changed the ECU pretty dramatically from what I understand, no more solenoids for turbo control, all done through a little black box. Emission stuff is different too.

I don't know enough about the newer wiring harnesses to be of help, but my gut feeling is that they are going to be completely incompatible. Different sensors, different wiring, connectors and pinouts on the ECU's. Do you have your original harness so you can compare?

As I know, I don't think so coz 96-98 using 16 bits ECU. Like Apexi Power FC. It has 3 models for FD, 93-95, 96-98, and 99up

They totally changed the harness in Japan in '96, and I believe again in '99. Totally different plugs into the ECU.

Even if you had the harness and ECU, it would be a nightmare to try and wire in - there's no English documentation of the later wiring harnesses, and I have NO idea how you'd get a hold of a Japanese shop manual, much less translate it.

On top of that, you'd need all the associated hardware - various solenoids, sensors, etc. There's no guarantee that they didn't change 'em in '96.

It would be great to use the later harness, but not feasible IMHO. You'd most likely end up with a big mess that doesn't run.
