944 Turbo Boost Gauge

i was trying to come up with another place to put a boost gauge in my car, because for the most part i just dislike "pods". and the DIN slot is just too far too look, and try and keep your eyes on the road.

then i remembered my step dads 944 turbo. i really like the way the boost pressure is displayed neatly below the tach. looking at my FD cluster, there seems to be PLENTY of room to do something similar.

the actual mechanics of getting the gauge to work are the easy part. but im wondering if theres any space behind the face of the tach so something could be put there. the only thing that seems to be in the way is the CRUISE light... but i can live without that.

anyone tried something like this?

I mounted 3 gauges in the din panel. Looks like stock . You shouldn't be looking at your boost gauge all the time. Only once in a while to make sure it is correct. I check mine once every couple of months.

Space-wise, it could be possible, but that would be RIDICULOUSLY complicated to pull off. How would you silk screen the numbers onto the tach, make them light up from behind, put a mechanism that can accurately move the needle behind there, etc. etc. etc.

Good out of the box thinking, but not practical.

If you want something like that, track down a '99+ instrument cluster from Japan. The oil pressure gauge is a boost gauge on the later clusters.

Really, I prefer the pods that go where the center speaker goes. I've had nothing but compliments on mine, and people wondering if it was stock it looks so good. Boost gauges are good things to keep the corner of your eye watching, so it's best to be in your field of view.

There's also the column mount gauges, like Pettit's (which is an RE Amemiya copy). Very clean and stock looking. It's a new top half for the steering wheel column with a gauge mount at an angle on the top - it's kind of in the area you're thinking, at the bottom of the tach in a way, and looks very clean.

the mechanics of the gauge is the leat of my worries. getting it to light up will be a little difficult, but not too hard.

i need to get the black backround piece that the numbers of the tach are actually printed on. is there a replacement for this? just the backround, not the entire cluster. i think ive seen white ones before somewhere.
