Old fuel line setup:

New (recall kit) setup:

Hard to tell from the pics, but the hose connecting the 2 rails is thicker and setup differently. This kit (along with the FPD) was one of the first things I did to my car after I bought it. It is a huge pain in the *** to install, but the piece of mind is worth it.

RX7Wishing: Sorry for your loss, man, but at least you got out of the car.

I don't know conclusively yet, but I believe it was the hose that runs from the primary to the secondary. The only evidence I have at the moment is the vac hose on the front OMP nozzle was swollen from contact with fuel. The only other possibility is the front secondary leaking which seems unlikely. Once I get it back together I should know more. The line in question was the one that was part of the recall. I'm waiting to see what the new one looks like. I know my car's original owner had all service work done at the dealer so I find it hard to believe the recall wasn't done.

There is a recall for engine fires. i had an engine fire out of no where when i first got my fd.
the insurance company covered the damages. luckily it caught fire in a residential neighborhood and someone threw a bucket of water on my engine bay before it got worst.
but what really surprised me was the estimate to fix the damage. it came out to eleven
grand for parts and labor. whewww! this was in 2001. good luck on your next car dude.

The 1600s replace your stock 850 secondaries. you still use your 550 primaries.

if your car is basically stock, leave the injectors alone, aside from getting them cleaned and flowtested. honestly, you don't want to remove the primaries unless you absolutely have to. They reside right on top of (insert into) the intermediate housing, and are a huge pain in the *** to get to on a stock FD.

This thread sucks. Makes me pretty depressed to see that FD transformed into huge fireball

I wonder how insurance companies handle engine fires if the fuel system is modified? Sucks to hear about your car. I imagine it makes everyone a little worried about their own FDs.

I'd yank the PFC and commander out of the car, it should be saleable and just stick a stock ecu back in there. The fireball picture is one for the record books....sucks ***** dude.

that sucks bro....

the only thing i could think of to cause an explosion is fuel mixed with air, ie. a leaky injector seal likely in the primaries where they meet the iron housing. under boost these like to leak if they are in bad shape which can fill the engine bay with a nice mixture of atomized air/fuel which just needs a spark to ignite and cause a combustion explosion like that. alot of the time fuel leaks just puddle up due to leaky hoses or the FPD which causes a small fire to grow into a big one.

wow..........that's all that you can really say is wow. sorry for the loss man. From the looks of the aftermath that chassis is toast. Look how the R1 strut tower bar is melted. The rest of the car is shot, unless you were to do like turbojeff did on his CYM R1 that he re-did a couple of years back, putting an entire new front end from a wrecked car on. sorry for your loss. buy it back and rip the engine, tranny, rear end, etc. for spares or sell them off, then sell it for scrap. that's all it's worth now.

again, sorry for the loss, i'm going to buy a big *** commercial one for my FB now.

I just saw an early 90s 911 on the side of the highway tonight with 6 foot flames pouring out of the engine bay (behind the driver)

guess it happens to a few other cars, too
