That combined with the fact that I want a nice car because I've been working hard, means that I'm still not going to delay the gratification. I will take advice though, which is why I am back. I just got home from test driving a 2004 Nissan 350z. It's a really safe car, has insane handling, and omg it r is be teh sex. I would have to lease it but I really need a car. So, what do you guys think of those?

Much of what's been said about the RX7 I'm sure would apply to the 350Z, except for the cost of repairs and upkeep, which can be significant.

I like the idea of a lease for a 16-year-old, simply because you don't need the baggage of collector car(s) when you're ready to leave home, go to college, move into an apartment etc.

Consider your future, where you'll be in a few years, and make sure whatever you buy is going to fit into that lifestyle (read: college can be murder on cars)

well heres all im going to say being a younger guy myself (19). You seemt o have yourself a pretty good start on life and that your not the typical idiot young kid, I consider myself as such. Take their advice and respect the cars, your not god and your not a professional driver and much as you might think you are. Ive known a couple of people die/almost die from driving like a complete moron, and ive never been an idiot myself and never gotten a ticket yet, and dont plan to. Sure I mess around sometimes but I know when to shut it down, its not worth wrecking your car or killing/hurting people to go fast. Also since you probably got some cash, if you do get a fast car, take a professional driving coarse, not only will it increase your skills greatly, it also lowers insurance and can help you in emergency situations. I only have 1 other friend that wants to take those as well, all of the rest say "oh I dont need school to teach me how to drive im good enough" or "ill teach myself its not hard"...keep in mind these are the same people with 6+ points, tons of tickets, and suspended licenses.

You definately need to look into your future too, the only reason Im getting my fd is because im going to be living at home with my parents for 3 years starting sept 12th, and its going to suck, but I will have plenty surplus of money to get my own place again after that, and trust me having your own house is WAY better then having a sweet car, its hard to beleive but trust me.

Also if you need to drive it 80 miles a day dont get it, for me it will only be a nice day kind of car, im gonna drive it every chance I get because I hate garage cars, but ill definately have a DD to drive, specially in the snow. And youd also have to take into consideration your probably going to be repairing the car a LOT, its a high maintenance vehicle.

but seeing how your looking into a new car, 350z arent bad, they are quick for NA cars and as long as you dont wanna be to much faster I dont see a problem with them, most roadster cars are nice (miata, s2000, z3/z4 ect) and dont cost THAT much and are definately fun to drive. you could also look into a domestic like a cobra or a trans am for a pretty good price, and they are fast and pretty reliable, and probably pretty safe as well. You could also check out dsms, srt-4s, wrx, evo's ect for a not so shabby price.

I think im rambling on now so I think ill stop.

P.S. I DEFINATELY see where you are coming from on wanting a nice car to see what your working so hard for, I feel ya completely.

Very good advice and Toadman is absolutely right!!

I acturally gave this exact advice to one of the local young T2 owner..
I've driven other cars and I'm also little scare when I get into my 7.. I know some of you saw me at this years Rotary Rev., with my 7lbs of boost and 275 brand new all-season tires in the back, I completely lost control going 35-40MPH and.. Almost crashed my car into a telephone pole.

Accidents happen and don't get yourself into financial stress because you want a car.. Get your priorities straight and buy a house first!

miata is a nice idea. and how about a nice N/A FC? those're quite fun and not as wild, more sensible, bigger and more comfortable, cheaper, too, and gets ready for you in case you still want an FD a few years down the line. i wish i had an FC when I was 16

I own a 93 rx7. I bought it in 96 with 2000 miles. Since then I've been married and bought a house (made shure it had a good garage). Now I have a kid on the way in early october. Its been hard to hold onto the rx7, but I have. I hope i'll never have to sell it, It still only has 30000 miles and OG engine. It has had its fare share problems (dealer service!!!!!). I have doing all the work on the car my self for some time now and have had alot less problems.

So I guess what I need to say is it could be done at your age but I would recomend doing alot work yourself. although it doesnt sound like you have alot of time for this.

as for the 350z. It is a very solid car, and fast. I've been working for CJMOTORSPORTS for the past 4 months. were i've installed 2(qty) greddy twin turbo kits. this makes the car really come alive.

hopefully this will help you in your decision, and good luck.
