93 FD Pettit ECU in 94 FD - problems!

Similar to the other post "whats the dif between a 93 and 94 pettit ecu", but I have the reverse situation.

I swapped out the ECU and it ran fine for one day, but now, can't start the car with Pettit ECU installed. If I use the OEM 94 ECU again, no problems. Anyone have experience with this or know why this happens?

Whoever had the 94 ECU in his 93 and having problems, I'm willing to consider a trade. I was told by the seller that it is a Non-Cali 93 Pettit ECU programmed to handle DP, MP, IC, Intake, and Street Ported Motor.

Pettit ECU

Do you get any error codes when the Pettit ECU is in the car ? ? ? I'd suspect the ECU has failed (wouldn't be the first time) A friend of mine has had three different ECU's but seems to be ok now. I've got one and have a 93 ECU in a 94 Touring and have had no problems (knock on wood) so far. Jack

there are slight reprograming differences that the different year models need to under-go, or so says cameron worth at pettit. he told me this to my face. so, i am assuming this is your problem. as cameron told me the car would not run properly.

If I remember correctly, a 93 will NOT work in a 94/95, but a 94/95 WILL work in a 93. However I do not know why this is, other then Mazda changed alot of stuff from 93 -94.

Actualy it's the other way around. The reason being is the 93 has a vacuum controled EGR and the ECU doesn't look at it. Where the 94 has an electicly controled EGR and looks for feed back from it. The 95 may or may not even have an EGR (can't remember) so the 93 will work in any year without error codes where as the 94/95 will work but will throw an EGR error code.
