93 Cali ECU in a 94 FD

Would there be any problems? I'm planning on buying a 93 Cali ECU and putting it in my 94 FD. I did a quick search and found that the 94 ECU is the same as the 93 Cali ECU (EGR).

When I put a Pettit ECU in my Cali car I noticed the check engine light came on...but I added some other mods so I don't know if it was the sole cause. Would the CEL come on again with the 93 Cali ECU in my 94?

Did you check to find out what engine code you were getting?

The only difference with the cali and non-cali ECU's is checking the EGR valve - there's a circuit that checks that the EGR valve moved when it was told to move. Supposedly you can blockoff the EGR valve and put a '93 non-cali ECU in the car and have no worries.

But, if you plugged a '93 ECU into a '94 car with the EGR switch, the ECU may have been upset that the EGR switch was actually plugged in and working - on federal '93s the plug is loose and not plugged in to anything.

What are you trying to accomplish by swapping ECUs around?
