Where have you found and used one for $600 all the ones I have seen are upward $1500, also has the problem with cutting of the driveshaft been solved or is it still required to shorten it

Cool! This is awesome news! The BW T-56 tranny is a rock-solid piece. Not only is it used in the Viper, but also in the V8 F-bodies and the C5. I loved it when I owned a Z28 (one of the few things good about that car).

 

What about our power plant frame?

 

If you read the other thread, you would see they will be including adaptor plates with it.

 

you can get one from $900, not for $900. I've shopped around for a T56 tranny and they cost more than that, especially from a place that deals with vipers only. When I was searching for a T56 tranny for an LT1, I couldn't find any under $1500, most were over $2000. And you're talking about a Viper tranny, I would say you're going to spend at least $2500 if not more for a good condition tranny from a viper. But hey, if you can get one from them for $900 than I would be very happy for you cause damn that's a good deal. The T56 tranny from an Fbody are allot cheaper and they hold up power probably just as well. Jimlab should know more about that

and yes vipercarparts.com sells them for 900 used trannies.ive talked about buying one from them one time along with the engine for the project but dont feel like cutting firewall right now.

 

u dont need ur ppf anyways.just get a differential mount made out of the rear piece of ur ppf to where it is bolted down, and a tranny mount.u will be good to go.

 

So how do you mount the tranny without a ppf??? What keeps the tail from droping to the ground?

Does it come with all the mounts to so that the tranny will securly mount with no probs???

Their web site does say from $900, which means $900 and up to me. I doubt they regularly have $900 examples in stock, and if they did, I'd be worried about the condition, since Viper T56s are usually quite a bit more expensive than the F-body version, partially from being much rarer. F-body T56s can be found for $1,000-1,500 pretty easily.

The Viper T56 has different input and output shafts from the F-body T56, meaning you'd also have to try to find a flywheel and clutch that would work, and would probably need a spacer of some type, since I believe that the input shaft is longer. The Viper T56 case is also different in overall length and mounting pad location, and wouldn't bolt to an LT1 or LS1 without a custom adapter or bellhousing anyway.

 

ur right it is a different bellhousing.its a borg warner design but for a viper application.so of course it is going to be different.

how are u going to mount the transmission without a ppf?didnt i just say make a transmission mount.thats how u mount it.

i would use the f body t56 just cuz the parts are more convienent.im sure it would be an *** load more for a clutch setup also compared to the fbody's.

 

I think you misunderstood. The mounting pad location is different. A bracket made to mount an F-body T56 will not work on a Viper, and vice versa.

I was simply pointing out that there were several reasons why a Viper T56 wouldn't automatically work where an F-body version would.

 

If this mod was done w/ a viper tranny you would also need a clutch and flywheel for the it also, so it not just buying the adapter and the tranny and bolting it up

someone asked me how i was going to mount the transmission without a ppf after i said make a tranny mount.

but yeah i know each tranny is a different headache.

20b-this is what i mentioned.if anyone used a 6 speed adapter it would be best to go with the f-body's.seeing u could probably get a stage( ) clutch for the same price as a "viper oem" clutch setup.

 

twint78-Isn't the viper tranny stronger than the f-body's I'm looking @ making around 450 to 500 or more flbs of torgue once my 20b is finish'd so I want to make sure it'll hold. $2500 for a viper 6-speed is not bad if it'll hold

 

u can go to ebay and get buy it nows for about 1500 dollars on viper trannies.

yes it can hold torque a little bit better. but u got to look at costs.the stuff u will be buying will have viper written on it.which makes it stupid expensive.like for example.the turbo for a fd is the same price for a whole turbo kit for a honda.it is just in a name.

if u r looking at 2500,then u can buy a f-body tranny for about 1000-1200.and spend the other 1300 on building the tranny to be even better than the "Viper' t56.

 

The Viper T56 has larger input and output shafts and a different bellhousing, but for all intents and purposes, is the same internally, with the exception of a steel shift fork. It also shares the same gear ratios as the '94-up F-body T56s, so there's nothing to be gained by using a Viper transmission, unless you just found one cheap, because of the extra costs involved in installing it in another car.

The F-body T56 can be upgraded with a steel shift fork and other goodies, and D&D Performance is the place to go for a built T56.

 

F-body tranny can hold 500ftlbs of torque no problem at all. It's your rear end you have to think about now.


twint78, show me were you found a viper tranny for $1500 buy it now. The only one I see is $1700 plus a $950 core charge. That's a $2650 tranny plus shipping. Viper parts just don't go for that cheap, and that goes for any rare cars

 

LS1 T56's are usually less expensive than LT1 T56's. I believe they have different input shafts. As for the 20b handling the torque load of any of these T56's should not be an issue at all. These are stout transmissions.
