6 Speed trans in FD?
I posted this in general rotary and can't delete the thread- Sorry mods. I should have read Jason's sticky first.
Was given this link by a friend-apparently a wrecker in northern cal has a 2000 rx7 engine and 6 speed transmission?
Is this for real? I was not aware of the existence of a factory 6 speed? Perhaps its aftermarket?
If anyone has any insight on this, I'd really appreciate it. I don't plan on buying it but it'd put my mind at ease, knowing whether or not such a thing exists.

Well I can tell you that Mazda never made a 6 speed tranny for the FD so it's definitely not stock. I've heard of a few Japanese tuners that make them but they cost big $$. I have a stock 5 speed on my garage floor right now and the one in that pic looks identical to it. Either it's a misprint or the guy is being ridiculously technical since it really IS a 6 speed, 5 forward and 1 reverse... i dunno.

Definitely not factory. If the Type R Bathurst has only a 5 speed, then its not likely there was ever a 6 speed (factory).

Thats not to say that some one with a strong engineering background and access to mega bux CNC machines did not design 6 gears/linkage/etc to fit inside the factory gearbox. Not likely though either.

HKS makes a 6-speed transmission for the Rx-7 but i hope that you are sitting down. List on it is 8K.

That doesn't look like a 6-speed to me, but what do I know? It's likely a misprint if this is the only information you have about that motor/tranny combo pictured. And that stuff looks really corroded and dirty to have come out of a 2000.
There's a company in Australia (I believe) that makes a mating kit for putting a JZA80 6-speed into an FD. You can also get the HKS 6-speed sequential tranny for around $8-9K + shipping.
