5th gear problem, need help!

I was getting on my car 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and I had trouble getting into 3rd, slight grind. When I went to put into 5th normal driving, I wouldn't go in. I had to force in with a definite grind. I think my syncro may be broken. Anybody have any experience with this problem? How hard is it to fix? Need help soon. I'm driving to from Orlando to Miami in two weeks.

Thanks

http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/s...t_spindle.html You need to replace 5th synchro and shoudl upgrade the select spindle to avoid it happening again. Until it's fixed, just double-clutch into 5th gear.

You need to drop the tranny, remove the extension housing, bearing cover, and a few other things to get to the synchro. It's another hour or so ontop of a clutch job. Lots of labor for $100 worth of parts.

'5th synchro' in the search tool will turn up MANY how-tos, including 2 photo writeups.
