Just did a little mock up I think it looks better than just lowering the stock headlight. With a custom shroud I think I can pull it off. Anyone done this before and have any finished setups?

Veilside did something similar, pretty rare to source the lights though.
Would be cool if someone could source a sleek housing and add hid projectors.

I have looked all over for those housings and they are discontinued. If anyone has the veilside kit could they measure the housing size?

 

The Veilside lights almost look closer to 3" x 6".

 

For the OP, if you are considering making your own custom sleepy eye headlights I suggest you check out Hella 6213.

I know there is a site that sells them in a kit for the MX-5. And I also know a guy on the French rx-7 forums who made a custom kit for the FD using the Hella 6213.

I have been looking into doing this with LED light bars but cant seem to find anything that gives me the light I am looking for. My next step was going to be two projectors. I hate how high the oem lights stick up, the Veilside kit is perfect IMO!

 

Found pictures of a Miata kit using what looks like the 6213. The bad part about the 6213 is it's a single beam light.

 

i love the rectangular style flip ups... i was thinking of using nsx ones but they seem to be a bit too long to fit under the light cover.. keep us posted on your progress!

 

I don't think you need a housing, all you need to do is incorporate a glass or acrylic rectangle to the shroud.

Make the shroud retain the glass/acrylic piece with some clips from the inside.

The hard part would be making the brackets and figuring out the light source, and of course, making the shroud.

 

For a sealed projector a custom shroud and acrylic lens would work. I want to use my projectors and make a hid retrofit into a housing. My projectors are not sealed so I can't leave it open to the elements. I found some housings that look kind of like the veilside and ordered them the 4x6 would of worked perfectly fine but I couldn't lower the headlights as much as I wanted with them. The new housings are 6x3 so I am hoping it will look better.

 

Hmm I'm pretty sure they have the 6213 in a dual beam set-up as well.

I agree, the Veilside lights look great to me. I wish some of the vendors took the time to make a kit, I'd be first in line to buy one.

 

I'll be damned. Looks like there are both single and dual beam versions of the 6213.

Was looking at pictures of NSX head lights. I'm convinced Veilside used a similar light.

 

The 6213 are too big and will not provide the correct beam pattern for driving. They are nearly the same size as the housing I have already and mine uses h4 bulbs.

 

That's another thing. If there aren't many options for smaller, rectangular headlights, there have to be even fewer in the same size with both a low and high beam.

I think something 3in tall is the ticket. This will allow for a shroud to sit flush with bumper in the up position.

 

This looks perfect! I would be in if someone would sell a kit for the mounting bracket, lights, and whatever is needed to make the headlight only pop up that much! Ill make the shroud!

I can gaurantee no one is going to make a kit with that light since it is a work lamp and not for headlight use. However I did find a h4 version for auxiliary headlights but they are discontinued.

 

That has been my issue, all I can really find are lights that are not made for automotive use so it will not have the correct light beam.

The light I ordered ended up not working out and I can't find anything close to what I need so I am just going to work with what I have. Instead of finding a light that fits I am just going to make a shroud to make it look like the light is smaller.

So now I am just experimenting with pop up height. I really like the lower look.
