40,000 dollar modded FD
I'll take a car that has appreciated a lot over the years.
1963 corvette, MSRP $4,257.00
Inflation rate using 1980 CPI is about ??? 6% every yr since then.
That same 1963 corvette to break even would need to sell for $83,119.
Priced in gold, 1963, $35.09/oz
corvette cost is 121.03 ounces of gold in 1963,
today it would need to fetch $155,456 dollars or more to make a return on investment.
barrel of oil was $1.80 in 1963, corvette cost is 2,365 barrels of oil.
today you would need $220,820 or more to sell the corvette to beat the price of oil.
dow back in 1963 was $700/share, corvette was 6 shares of the dow which would now be valued at $103,384.
Basically what I am saying is the corvette in 1963 wasn't even an investment, it couldn't beat a lump of metal, a barrel of oil, or the dow.....and it also means inflation is greater than my estimated 6%/yr.
Notice that commodities have outperformed even the dow.

In fact like most cars its just a fun way to spend your money. What's the saying "the only way to make a million in racing is to start with a billion" and the same applies to horses, boats, cars etc.......

If you bought a low mileage FD like my 95 R2 (16k miles) for 30k, maintained it and added another 10k miles over the next 10 years it's a 50k car in 2024. Now take that same 30k and put it in a stock index fund and I think you'll be lucky if it's worth 50k. I say this because I think the FD is undervalued and the stock market is overvalued.
The world economy is jacked up and I'm waiting for a corner to fall. Currently there is no good investment cough cough other than FDs LOL so patience is king.

Fritz... Yep. Couldn't have said it better. The stock market will tank next year when Yellen raises rates. You need to be in tangible investments. Commodities, gold, cars, anything but stocks. Hopefully people have made money in this artificial market and get out soon.

Makes sense, doesn't want to damage that beauty.
I have a serious problem with repaints especially various colors that are non original. JUST NASTY!!!!! And if you paint your engine bay black. Prep that sh#t so the red doesn't show through DAMN!!!!!

The coilovers are Stance with independent oil reservoirs, or at least my guess based on the color of the oil reservoirs. Asking prices never dictate true market value, only FD prices I see going up are mint/unmodified original cars or possibly 20B vehicles given how hard it is to find a 20B these days. Everyone has been calling for FD values to skyrocket for at least 5 years now and prices have barely budged.

my FD was on the cover of the magazine Red Herring...
the guy with the FD in his living room is actually Napster's MECHANIC. that CYM is long gone, there is a pristine 95 FD in its place. (and before that a 930 turbo).

If any FD might hold some celebrity/notoriety value it might be PFS's old 20b car.

i agree about the PFS car, it was in all the magazines

94 R2 with 6k miles. If it was a 95 it would be the unicorn. Everyone gets all excited over the CYM when their were less SSM R models imported than CYM.
Either way this is an example of a $30k+ Fd that is actually undervalued in my opinion.

That is a legit 40k FD. I am very tempted
I think it's undervalued also but we are different from the masses. As long as a guy that's looking for a sexy fast car, for what ever reason, can buy a low mileage car like a mid to late 90s Viper for $50k or less, then our beloved FDs will stay at the prices we see them at now. jmho
Most of the high priced muscle cars were loved by the masses. Our cars are loved by, well...us.
That's not to say our cars will not go up in price some day. The thing none of us know is when. Maybe when there are only a few left. There seems to be quite a number of low mileage FDs out there. At least compared to how many were built.
