are 3mm apexi-hurley seals bad?

I am in the process of buying a rx7 and the rx7 has a built engine with hurley seals. The shop i was going to get the rx7 worked on in told me that the hurley seals are not reliable and should not be used for a street application. Gotham racing and t and r racing both told me the same thin. Could someone please let me know IF this is true. Also suggestions on what 3mm seals are good would be appreciated.

Yes, Hurley seals suck under boost. Just stick with OEM Mazda 3mm seals.

The hurleys will do minimal damage when they break, but the problem is they break if you fart too hard while WOT .

I have broken around 25 of the hurley 2mm's, so trust me on this one

Don't use 3mm seals IMO, period.

People have had great success running 500whp on stock mazda 2mm - why fix it if it aint broke?

Run oem mazda 3mm apex seals (btw, apexi is a performance company, note the distinction ). You will save money by ordering your oem parts from Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda, 888 533 3400. Ray is on vacation now but john can help you. Also, I will be out of the country until April 15th but after that we can always meet up and I can check out your FD and make recommendations. I work in midtown.

I'll let you know when mine fail..6500 miles so far. Lots of 15psi pulls. The guy who built my motor ended up ripping a bunch of people off. Maybe he did me a favor by putting oem seals in there eventhough I paid for hurley's 3 years ago. I just hope the car gets me to NC and back for the GAP. I will be happy. G

I just love it when people spew misinformation and rumor without reason.

how do you figure?
i've taken apart a motor with hurley apex seals... apex seals came out fine, while the rotor faces were dented, 10 broken corner seals, and one broken side seal.

got anything to back your claim up?
