3 Bar MAP sensor ?

First off, is this picture correct? I need to find out what the MAP sensor I have is.

I purchased a (supposedly) 3 Bar MAP sensor last fall. I am getting ready for a re tune and wanted to install it this time around. I purchased the Banzai Racing Adapter so I could drive there with my stock MAP sensor, then before the tune I could easily swap it out so that the tuner could change the settings to compensate for it.

I tested the plug to see how it worked and it didn't fit. I thought that The plug on the adapter was wrong. I thought I could just put the notches in the correct spots. I started doing a little research on the part #'s and cam up with the picture I have attached. The part # on the MAP sensor that I have is 039 5293. Witch leads me to believe that this is a 1 bar MAP sensor. Can any one confirm this? The person that sold me this is very willing to rectify the situation. So if anyone has a 3 bar let me know.

Thanks
Brandon

These are the part numbers for the GM 3 bar map sensor, should be located on a label on the underside of the sensor. I will look later this morning at the numbers by the connector on the ones we have at the shop.

1st bar is to get you to atmospheric. Technically, the stock map sensor 'should' only be good until 1 bar/14.5 psi. It's been shown to be accurate up to about 16ish psi. The 3 bar is needed to safely run more than that level.

Thanks, and please let me know what you find. I gave your shop a call yesterday and haven't heard anything back. If you want to just respond in this thread that would be great.

Btw, the The adapter looks great. It will serve my purpose vary well. I like that you have heat shrink under the loom.

Thanks for the explanation Rich. I was thinking of putting this in the single turbo section but really need an answer ASAP. Plus I searched for this kind of topic and really didn't find anything. This might be good for people purchasing these since the 1 bar, 2 bar , and 3 bar share the same housing.

Now go out and read the part #'s of your 3 bar and tell me what they say.

We took off early yesterday, I will respond to you when we get to the shop this morning. From the quick look around the internet this morning, it looks like your chart above is correct. I found a 1 bar with the "460" marking on it.

A 1 bar only works for N/A applications that only see vacuum. Remember atmosphere is 1 bar, which is what you have surrounding you all the time

2 Bar sensor is good for approx 1 bar PSI boost (stock FD map sensor)
3 Bar sensor is good for approx 2 bar psi boost

hopefully that simplifies it.

Must be nice. JK

BTW, I don't have a sticker on mine anymore. I also have a PM from some one that said they had a 3 bar. When I had them tell me the part #, the first 3 digits were 039. So now I am really confused. Did he get scammed also and actually has a 1 bar or is the picture I posted wrong. Hmmmmmm..........

I just checked all the 3 bar sensors in the shop and none of them have any numbers on the top with exception to the 466 which appears to be a generic number found on all the sensors.

Thanks for looking. This seems to be a after molding stamping process. They most likely moved to the stickers because it is cheaper. The sticker, I am sure stays on till it gets sold to the consumer, at least.

Any way the next thing to look at is the original way I discovered something wrong.

Does GM make a specific keyed plug for the 3 bar, 2 bar, 1 bar?

The 2 and 3 bar are the same, the 1 bar is different. However, the very old part # 3 bar has a different plug then the new one. If you look at our adapter you will see that we slotted it for both new and old styles. So if you are having trouble plugging it in to the sensor, it is most likely the 1 bar. Is this a used part?

I found this site which uses the same diagram that you have posted

Yes. This is the reason I am questioning this so much.

I would really like to find a way to figure this out. Is there any kind of resistance (ohm) difference between the different bar sensors? In other words is it possible to check it with a volt meter of some sort.

I get these readings across the pins.

A/B=296.6 k ohms

A/C=1.39 k ohms

B/C=296.1 k ohms

Hey I just looked on my fd. I bought the 3 bar MAP sensor from Gotham Racing.

There are no markings on the sensor except 466 and CBA. There is a Green dot on it.

On the sticker it reads 120502 0346

You don't think you'd have better luck posting on a GNX board or something?

Ahhh, okay. I should have remembered that from my compound forced induction material.

We need a reading from a 2 bar and another 1 bar to know if this is a way to check.

Maybe I will do some searching on GM related forums like rynberg suggested.
