1st to 2nd grind?

As the titles say i have a first to second grind issue. It only happens at full throttle over 7000rpms. My 5th gear synchro is already shot if that could have anything to do with that. My clutch started sticking last weekend but it was just the fluid line which i replaced today and it isnt sticking now my my previous problem of the 1st to second grind still exists. I dont think it would be master or slave cyclinder, do i just need to get a new tranny. I have an ACT stg 3 in the car. Has anyone done a t56 out of a ls1 to the 13b block its a small tranny and would probably fit but machining a adaptor plate would be my main issue since im not an engineer, but if anyone has done this before it would be good to know?

Most likely a snycro problem, have you changed your tranny fluid at all? Might just be better to get another tranny and rebuild the old one...

Try changing your tranny fluid and see if it has an impact because the majority of FD owners who have this issue or similar issues have changed the fluid, it made the gear changing much smoother.

Cheers,

Could also be under full throttle and a quick shift that you're not fully disengaging the clutch therefore getting a slight grind.

1) 1-2 grind is probably syncro related. Since tranny oil affects synchro performance, I suggest changing to a fresh GL-4 synthetic, such as Amsoil 75w-90 GL-4 or Redine MT-90. 2nd synchro has the highest 'load' of any of them (except a rolling downshift to 1st, which ordinarily shouldn't happen), and so if your 5th synchro damage has also contaminated the oil then the fluid change *could* help 2nd.

There is also an updated 2nd synchro and clutch hub/sleeve assembly from Mazda, which improves the 2nd shift on 93s and early 94s. However, to replace it requires a complete tranny rebuild, and the updated parts alone cost around $300. I would put in a low mileage JDM tranny or something similar.

2) Nope, a T-56 does not bolt up, as you have already recognized. So an adapter plate would be required, as would ensuring the shift lines up with the shifter console, and making an attachment for the PowerPlant Frame. I don't know anything else about it, but I would imagine it will be *very* hard to beat the $750 it takes to put in a newer FD tranny.
